  1. 1. Future stratospheric ozone depletion will affect a subarctic dwarf shrub ecosystem

    University dissertation from Biology building

    Author : Ulf Johanson; [1997]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Vaccinium; UVB; subarctic; shoot growth; ozone depletion; leaf thickness; irradiation system; heath ecosystem; Empetrum; dwarf shrubs; Calamagrostis; decomposition; Physiological biophysics; Växtfysiologi;

    Abstract : The stratospheric ozone depletion and the concomitant increase in ultraviolet-B (UV-B, 280-320 nm) radiation is of global concern due to the effects of UV-B on living organisms. To investigate the effects of increased levels of UV-B, a field irradiation system was established at a subarctic dwarf shrub heath in Northern Sweden (68 °N). READ MORE

  2. 2. Modification of flavonoid content and photosynthesis by ultraviolet-B radiation. Atrazine-tolerant and -sensitive ultivars of Brassica napus

    University dissertation from Janet F. Bornman, Plant Phyiology, Box 117, Lund University, 221 00 Lund, Sweden

    Author : Louise Olsson; [1999]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; recovery; quercetin; photosynthesis; photoinhibition; photoacoustics; leaf anatomy; kaempferol; flavonoid; D1 protein; fluorescence; cold stress; carbon dioxide; atrazine tolerance; Brassica napus; UV-B; Physiological biophysics; Växtfysiologi;

    Abstract : Levels of ultraviolet-B (UV-B, 280-320 nm) radiation reaching the Earth´s surface increase due to stratospheric ozone depletion. In this thesis the effect of enhanced UV-B radiation was studied on the atrazine-tolerant mutant Stallion, susceptible to photoinhibition, and the atrazine-sensitive cultivar Paroll of Brassica napus (oilseed rape). 3. 3. Extensive green roofs in Porto Alegre, Brazil : Effect on indoor thermal comfort in residential buildings

    University dissertation from Department of Architecture and Built Environment, Lund University

    Author : Lisandra Fachinello Krebs; [2018-11-07]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Architecture; Computer simulations; Extensive green roofs; Housing projects; Indoor thermal comfort; Leaf area index; Microclimate; Social housing; Sustainability; Thermal comfort;

    Abstract : Brazil had a significant quantitative housing deficit of 7.7 million residences in 2015, especially in low-income housing. Traditionally, these projects have low levels of thermal insulation which can result in discomfort caused by warmth or cold. The residential sector is responsible for a significant part of the energy use in Brazil. READ MORE

  4. 4. Adhesion in the wheel-rail contact under contaminated conditions

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH Royal Institute of Technology

    Author : Yi Zhu; Ulf Olofsson; Ines Lopez Arteaga; [2011]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; adhesion; wheel-rail contact; contaminants; rough surfaces;

    Abstract : Railway vehicles require a certain level of adhesion between wheel and rail to operate efficiently, reliably, and economically. Different levels of adhesion are needed depending on the vehicle running conditions. READ MORE

  5. 5. Adhesion in the wheel-rail contact

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH Royal Institute of Technology

    Author : Yi Zhu; Ulf Olofsson; Anders Söderberg; Zili Li; [2013]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Adhesion; wheel-rail contact; contaminants; tribology; Järnvägsgruppen - Tribologi; The KTH Railway Group - Tribology;

    Abstract : To attract more customers and compete with other modes of transportation, railway transport needs to ensure safety, punctuality, high comfort, and low cost; wheel–rail adhesion, i.e., the transmitted tangential force in the longitudinal direction during driving and braking, plays an important role in all these aspects.
