  1. 16. Two-scale stochastic modelling and analysis of leakage through metal-to-metal seals

    Author : Francesc Perez Rafols; Giuseppe Carbone; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Machine Elements; Maskinelement;

    Abstract : A seal is a commonly used machine element whose function is to preventthe flow of a fluid from a high to a low pressure region. Metal-to-metalseals, in particular, are used whenever extreme conditions prevent theuse of less expensive rubber seals. READ MORE

  2. 17. Analysis and Reduction of Parasitic Effects in Induction Motors With Die-Cast Rotors

    Author : Alexander Stening; Chandur Sadarangani; Nicola Bianchi; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Aluminium rotors; asynchronous torques; copper rotors; die-cast rotors; induction machines; inter-bar currents; modulated rotors; starting torque; stray losses; synchronous torques;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a study of inter-bar current effects on induction motors with die-cast aluminium and die-cast copper rotors. The parasitic effects introduced by these currents are analyzed and possible solutions to these problems are presented. This is realized by developing analytical tools for the simulation of inter-bar current effects. READ MORE

  3. 18. Antimicrobial Peptide Interactions with Phospholipid Membranes : Effects of Peptide and Lipid Composition on Membrane Adsorption and Disruption

    Author : Adam A Strömstedt; Martin Malmsten; Georges Belfort; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; antimicrobial; peptide; adsorption; liposome; membrane; melittin; cholesterol; tryptophan; phospholipid; bilayer; PHARMACY; FARMACI; Pharmaceutical Physical Chemistry; farmaceutisk fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : The interactions between antimicrobial peptides and phospholipid membranes were investigated, in terms of lipid headgroup variations and the role of cholesterol, as well as peptide composition and structure. Also strategies for increasing proteolytic stability were evaluated. READ MORE

  4. 19. Design of grout curtains under dams founded on rock

    Author : Suihan Zhang; Fredrik Johansson; Johan Funehag; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Grout curtains; Rock grouting; Dams; Erosion; Infilling materials in rock fractures; Injekteringsridåer; Berginjektering; Dammar; Erosion; Sprickfyllnadsmaterial; Soil and Rock Mechanics; Jord- och bergmekanik;

    Abstract : Grouting has long been implemented as a ground improvement technique to reduce the seepage through the rock mass. Grout curtains are usually constructed under dams as a barrier to prevent leakage from the reservoir. So far, the grout curtains under dams have mainly been designed by using an empirical design approach. READ MORE

  5. 20. Peripheral blood biomarkers of cell-specific autoimmunity. Studies in children at increased risk for type 1 diabetes

    Author : Falastin Salami; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 1 diabetes; biomarkers; children; CBC; autoimmunity; neutrophils; red blood cells; hemoglobin; HbA1c T-cells; prospective follow-up; GAD-alum;

    Abstract : Objective While the incidence of children suffering from autoimmune type 1 diabetes (T1D) is increasing in Sweden and worldwide, the underlying etiology and cellular mechanisms behind this remain unknown. The predisposition of the high-risk HLA DR-DQ genotype and as yet unknown environmental triggers lead to autoimmunity and the onset of T1D, which is preceded by islet beta-cell autoantibodies acting as markers for ongoing autoimmunity.
