    Abstract : It is argued in the cognitive science of religion (CSR) that the empathic ability to ‘mindread’ others underpins  the experience of supernatural communication with gods, ghosts, and spirits. In rhetorical theory, this type of argument is called an enthymeme, and a pattern of reasoning that it is based on is called a topos.
