16. Left ventricular filling during coronary artery bypass grafting
Abstract : Left ventricular (LV) filling, determination of preload, right ventricular end-diastolic volumes, volume contributions during early (E) and atrial (A) phases of LV filling and mitral valve opening areas were studied in 75 patients scheduled for elective coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). The purposes of the study were: (1) To evaluate changes in LV filling judged as peak velocity E/A ratios determined by Doppler transesophageal echocardiography during and in the early phase after CABG. 17. The right ventricle in volume or pressure overload : Insights from novel imaging techniques
Abstract : This study is inspired by the gap in knowledge regarding the timing of cardiac surgery and interventions in adult patients with congenital heart disease. There are many parameters used assessing right ventricular function; however, most of them have pitfalls. READ MORE

18. Management of patients treated with left ventricular assist devices : A clinical and experimental study
Abstract : This thesis describes the management of patients treated with mechanical circulatory support devices for short- or long-term use. Twenty-four patients suffering from postcardiotomy heart failure were treated with a minimally invasive axial flow pump. READ MORE

19. Usefulness of coronary angiography for assessing left ventricular function
Abstract : This thesis focus on the physiological information, on left ventricular (LV) motion in the long axis, evaluated in routine coronaty angiography sequences and based on previous knowledge from echocardiographic studies. As coronary angiography has become a very frequent examination, a method for assessment of LV function from routine coronary angiograms would probably have a significant impact on clinical work. 20. On the assessment of right ventricular function using cardiac magnetic resonance imaging and echocardiography
Abstract : Transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) and cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging are two commonly used imaging modalities for evaluating the size and function of the heart. There are advantages and disadvantages associated with both modalities when examining the right ventricle (RV). READ MORE
