  1. 21. Impaired glucose tolerance in ischemic heart disease

    Author : Loghman Henareh; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Diabetes mellitus; myocardial infarction; atherosclerosis; endothelial dysfunction; inflammation; microalbumiuria; left ventricular hypertrophy; tissue Doppler.;

    Abstract : Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) and impaired glucose tolerance test (IGT) are well known risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD). Individuals with IGT, a prediabetic state, are asymptomatic during many years and they often remain undiagnosed until they have developed overt diabetes or cardiovascular complications. READ MORE

  2. 22. Annular Motion : Assessment of Cardiac Function using Echocardiography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging

    Author : Lena Lindström; Otto Smiseth; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : This thesis concentrates on the assessment of cardiac function, both systolic and diastolic using variables originating from the longitudinal motion of the heart using both established and novel non-invasive imaging techniques. We developed a new magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technique that creates an M-mode MRI image, analogous to the one used in echocardiography and enables quantitative assessment of cardiac motion. 3. 23. Doppler evaluation of coronary blood flow and coronary flow reserve - Clinical and experimental studies

    Author : Gylfi Oskarsson; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pediatrics; Pediatri; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet; fetal asphyxia; transposition of the great arteries; dilated cardiomyopathy; aortic stenosis; child; neonate; adenosine; coronary flow reserve; Doppler; coronary flow;

    Abstract : Heart diseases in children cause different combinations of myocardial hypertrophy, increased intra-ventricular pressures, volume overload and decreased oxygen saturation. This may affect basal coronary flow and the ability of the heart to maximally increase coronary flow. READ MORE

  4. 24. Pharmacogenetic Studies of Antihypertensive Treatment : With Special Reference to the Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone System

    Author : Lisa Kurland; Heribert Schunkert; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; pharmacogenetics; hypertension; renin-angiotension-aldosterone system; gene polymorphisms; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Abstract : Hypertension is common and constitutes an increased risk of morbidity and mortality of cardiovascular disease. Antihypertensive treatment will reduce this risk; the individual patient's response to treatment, however, is difficult to predict. READ MORE

  5. 25. Vascular and endothelial function in human hypertension, and the importance of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system

    Author : Andreas Jekell; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Background: Hypertension induces structural vascular and cardiac changes with increased arterial stiffness and left ventricular (LV) hypertrophy and is major risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. The renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) and the sympathetic nervous system are important for blood pressure regulation and vascular function. READ MORE
