  1. 1. Assessment of Left Ventricular Function and Hemodynamics Using Three-dimensional Echocardiography

    Author : Kambiz Shahgaldi; Lars-Åke Brodin; Michael Haney; KTH; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Three-dimensional echocardiography; heart chambers; flow-volume loop; left ventricular ejection fraction; visualization; left ventricular stroke volume; left ventricular outflow tract; and single-heartbeat; Medical technology; Medicinsk teknik;

    Abstract : Left ventricular (LV) volumes and ejection fraction (EF) are important predictors of cardiac morbidity and mortality. LV volumes provide valuable prognostic information which isparticularly useful in the selection of therapy or determination of the optimal time for surgery. READ MORE

  2. 2. Insights into left atrial response to pressure and volume overload

    Author : Matteo Lisi; Michael Henein; Sergio Mondillo; Lars-Åke Lars; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Keywords Mitral regurgitation; aortic stenosis; speckle tracking echocardiography; heart transplantation; left atrial strain; left ventricualr function; right ventricular function; myocardial fibrosis;

    Abstract : The general purpose of this thesis is to establish the ability of Speckle Tracking Echocardiography (STE) in assessing left atrial (LA) response to pressure and volume overload respectively in aortic stenosis (AS) and mitral regurgitation (MR), and to evaluate its accuracy in predicting LA and right ventricular (RV) fibrosis in patients with end-stage heart failure (HF) undergoing heart transplantation (HTx).I demonstrated that assessment of left ventricular (LV) long axis systolic velocity and amplitude of excursion is more sensitive than simple determination of ejection fraction (EF) for revealing the beneficial impact of MR surgery on overall LV systolic performance. 3. 3. Left atrial function in health and disease

    Author : Mark Henein; Per Lindqvist; Stellan Mörner; Reidar Winter; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Left atrium; Doppler echocardiography; atrial interaction; atrial pressure;

    Abstract : The Objectives of this thesis are:1) To study possible atrial interaction in patients with right and left ventricular outflow tract obstruction due to significant pulmonary (PS) and aortic valve stenosis (AS), respectively.2) To assess left atrial (LA) intrinsic myocardial function and its relationship to indirect measures of left ventricular (LV) filling pressures in patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF). 4. 4. Single-cell analysis of mammalian cardiogenesis elucidating an essential role of outflow tract progenitors

    Author : Chikai Zhou; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The heart is the first organ to form and start to function during mammalian embryogenesis. This complex organ system is constructed by a diverse set of cell types, involving mesodermal precursors and heart progenitors, at the earliest embryonic stages. READ MORE

  5. 5. New insights in the assessment of right ventricular function : an echocardiographic study

    Author : Avin Calcutteea; Michael Y Henein; Per Lindqvist; Jan Engvall; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; echocardiography; right ventricle; ischaemic heart disease; pulmonary hypertension; aortic stenosis; aortic valve replacement; three dimensional echocardiography; speckle tracking echocardiography; Cardiology; kardiologi;

    Abstract : Background:  The right ventricle (RV) is multi-compartmental in orientation with a complex structural geometry. However, assessment of this part of the heart has remained an elusive clinical challenge. READ MORE
