  1. 1. Simple Question, Complex Answer : Pathways Towards a 50% Decrease in Building Energy Use

    Author : Philipp Weiss; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Buildings; Regional energy policy; Energy efficiency; Rebound effect; Community-Based Social Marketing; Teknisk fysik; Engineering Science; Energy and Built Environments;

    Abstract : Addressing building energy use is a pressing issue for building sector decisionmakers across Europe. In Sweden, some regions have adopted a target of reducingenergy use in buildings by 50% until 2050. READ MORE

  2. 2. Modelling drivers of energy demand in the European Union building sector

    Author : Eoin Ó Broin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; EU; Elasticities; Heating; Policy; Bottom-up; Top-down; Efficiency; Residential;

    Abstract : In the context of ongoing initiatives within the European Union (EU) to tackle global warming and to secure future energy supplies, the building sector is often cited as offering strong potential for energy savings. The primary aims of this thesis are to analyse the historical data related to EU building and to generate scenarios that highlight the technical and non-technical parameters that affect the energy demands (and thereby the potentials for savings) of the building sector. 3. 3. Integrated sewage sludge treatment scenarios – techno-economic analysis on energy and phosphorus recovery

    Author : Marzieh Bagheri; Elisabeth Wetterlund; Marcus Öhman; Lale Andreas; Roozbeh Feiz; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Sewage sludge management; techno-economic analysis; phosphorus recovery; thermochemical treatment; Energy Engineering; Energiteknik;

    Abstract : Sewage sludge is a by-product of wastewater treatment that simultaneously gathers contaminants, valuable organic matter, and nutrients. The treatment of the increasing amount of sewage sludge is important from both pollution prevention and resource recovery perspectives as i) large shares of mineral phosphorus, listed as a critical raw material, terminate in the sewage sludge, and ii) energy recovery from sewage sludge can cover the energy-intensive demand of the treatment process. 4. 4. Working model and methods for balancing energy performance, cultural and architectural values in our built heritage

    Author : Heidi Norrström; Michael Edén; Elena Mussinelli; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cultural historical and architectural values; supporting methods; balancing model; case study; legislation; energy efficiency; collaboration;

    Abstract : About 40 per cent of the energy produced within the European Union is consumed in and by the residential and business sector, and the same applies to Sweden. Today’s necessary focus on the climate issue with the concomitant energy issue connected to greenhouse gas emissions has resulted in stringent energy requirements even for preservation work on historically important buildings.
