  1. 1. Estimation of wood fibre length distributions from censored mixture data

    Author : Ingrid Svensson; Sara Sjöstedt - de Luna; Lennart Bondesson; Aila Särkkä; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; censoring; fibre length distribution; identifiability; increment core; length bias; mixture; stochastic EM algorithm; Mathematical statistics; Matematisk statistik;

    Abstract : The motivating forestry background for this thesis is the need for fast, non-destructive, and cost-efficient methods to estimate fibre length distributions in standing trees in order to evaluate the effect of silvicultural methods and breeding programs on fibre length. The usage of increment cores is a commonly used non-destructive sampling method in forestry. READ MORE

  2. 2. Self-Switching Diodes for Zero-Bias Terahertz Detection

    Author : Andreas Westlund; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; self-switching diode; noise-equivalent power; SSD; graphene; zero-bias; InAs; InGaAs; terahertz; detector;

    Abstract : The self-switching diode (SSD) has been investigated as a potential terahertz detector in recent years. The SSD accomplishes a non-linear current-voltage relation through a field-effect, which enables detection at zero bias from microwave up to terahertz frequencies. In this work, SSDs were realised in two new materials; InAs and graphene. READ MORE

  3. 3. Scaling of InGaAs/InAlAs and InAs/AlSb HEMTs for microwave/mm-wave applications

    Author : Malin Borg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; metamorphic; InGaAs; gate length; pseudomorphic; InAs; AlSb; InP; Schottky layer; High electron mobility transistor HEMT ; drain bias;

    Abstract : The InGaAs/InAlAs high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) offers the highest maximum frequency of oscillation fmax and the lowest noise performance (NFmin) for microwave/mm-wave receivers. Similar to other device technologies, the performance of the InGaAs/InAlAs HEMT has gradually been improved by device scaling. READ MORE

  4. 4. Suspended solids and indicator bacteria in stormwater runoff : Sources of bias in field measurements

    Author : Helen Galfi; David Stransky; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; VA-teknik; Urban Water Engineering;

    Abstract : Stormwater quality monitoring and control is a prerequisite for sustainable water resources management in urban areas. Stormwater monitoring programs are based on general water sampling guidance and, in the absence of standard procedures, employ various sampling and analytical methods. READ MORE

  5. 5. From Birth to Senescence. Studies on factors at birth and their relation to morbidity in women in adult life

    Author : Susan W. Andersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; birth weight; birth length; gestational age; recall; epidemiology; longitudinal; middle age; women; blood pressure; hypertension; cancer;

    Abstract : This thesis is concerned with factors at birth and their relation to disease in later adulthood. The aims of this thesis were to a) identify variables in Swedish midwife records at the early part of the 1900's and their relation to birth outcome; b) assess agreement between self-reported birth weight and recorded birth weight; and, c) examine the relationship between size at birth and 1) hypertension, and, 2) cancer morbidity in adult women.
