1. Effects of exercise and amino acid intake on mechanisms regulating protein synthesis and breakdown in human muscle
Abstract : Skeletal muscle adapts differently to specific modes of exercise, where resistance training results in muscle growth and endurance training induces mitochondrial biogenesis. These are results of molecular events that occur after each exercise session, increasing the expression of specific genes and the rate of both synthesis and breakdown of protein. READ MORE

2. Characterization of Amino Acid Transporters in the Brain : Molecular and Functional Studies of Members within the Solute Carrier Families SLC38 and SLC6
Abstract : Solute carriers (SLCs) comprise the largest group of transporters in humans and there are currently 52 SLC families. They are embedded in cellular membranes and transport numerous molecules; defects in many of the genes encoding SLCs have been connected to pathological conditions, and several SLCs are potential drug targets. 3. Genes encoding homeodomain-leucine zipper proteins in Arabidopsis thaliana
Abstract : A new class of transcription factors, the homeodomain-leucine zipper (HD-Zip) proteins, have been identified in Arabidopsis thaliana. These proteins contain a homeodomainfollowed by a leucine-zipper motif, a combination so far only found in plants. READ MORE

4. Leucine-rich repeats and immunoglobulin-like domain (LRIG) proteins : possible prognostic markers in vulvar squamous cell carcinoma, endometrial carcinoma, and oropharymgeal squamous cell carcinoma
Abstract : The human leucine-rich repeats and immunoglobulin-like domain (LRIG) gene family comprises three genes, LRIG1, LRIG2 and LRIG3, which encode the LRIG1, LRIG2 and LRIG3 proteins, respectively. Previous stidies have revealed the different prognostic roles of these proteins in different cancers, and it has been shown that LRIG1 functions as a tumour suppressor in certain cancers via its negative regulation of several receptor tyrosine kinases. 5. Functions of small leucine-rich repeat proteoglycans in connective tissues
Abstract : Biological properties of connective tissues rely heavily on collagen and its use in formation of extracellular networks (matrices) in which cells can live and move. To regulate the process of collagen matrix assembly, the cells secrete small leucine-rich repeat proteoglycans (SLRPs) that bind to collagen and influence its fibril formation. READ MORE
