21. Computational Techniques for Coupled Flow-Transport Problems
Abstract : This thesis presents numerical techniques for solving problems of incompressible flow coupled to scalar transport equations using finite element discretizations in space. The two applications considered in this thesis are multi-phase flow, modeled by level set or phase field methods, and planetary mantle convection based on the Boussinesq approximation. READ MORE

22. Learning Representations for Segmentation and Registration
Abstract : In computer vision, the aim is to model and extract high-level information from visual sensor measurements such as images, videos and 3D points. Since visual data is often high-dimensional, noisy and irregular, achieving robust data modeling is challenging. READ MORE

23. Finite element methods for surface problems
Abstract : The purpose of this thesis is to further develop numerical methods for solving surface problems by utilizing tangential calculus and the trace finite element method. Direct computation on the surface is possible by the use of tangential calculus, in contrast to the classical approach of mapping 2D parametric surfaces to 3D surfaces by means of differential geometry operators. 24. A transformational approach to formal digital system design
Abstract : The continuing development in electronic technology has made it possible to fit more and more functionality on a single chip, thus allowing digital systems to become increasingly complex. This has led to a need for better synthesis and verification methods and tools to manage this complexity.Formal digital system design is one such method. READ MORE

25. Combined profiling in aspen : a systems biology approach
Abstract : This thesis presents efficient systems biology modelling strategies for integrating complex multi-platform datasets in order to increase our understanding of stress biology, wood formation and secondary cell wall formation in Populus trees and connected responses to perturbations in organisms, particularly aspen. It is based on studies reported in four appended papers, designated Papers I-IV. READ MORE
