16. Memory-based Lie Detection in Repeated Interviews: The Importance of Early Use of Mnemonics
Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to examine how memory-enhancing (mnemonic) techniques used in an interview carried out immediately after an event affected truth tellers’ and liars’ responses in both an immediate interview and in a delayed interview. In Studies I-III participants took part in a mock intelligence scenario in which they were asked to take the role of an intelligence officer. READ MORE

17. Hips don't lie : the use of benchmarking and register data to assess the performance of orthopaedic care
Abstract : Background: Today’s healthcare systems face challenges involving rising need and demand for healthcare as well as concerns about cost containment, misuse of medical services and unwarranted variations in medical practices. Given the stretched budgets for healthcare, there is a need to improve healthcare performance and to make competent use of limited resources. READ MORE

18. Studies on boundary values of eigenfunctions on spaces of constant negative curvature
Abstract : This thesis consists of two papers on the spectral geometry of locally symmetric spaces of Riemannian and Lorentzian signature. Both works are concerned with the idea of relating analysis on such spaces to structures on their boundaries. The first paper is motivated by a conjecture of Patterson on the Selberg zeta function of Kleinian groups. 19. A Categorical Study of Composition Algebras via Group Actions and Triality
Abstract : A composition algebra is a non-zero algebra endowed with a strictly non-degenerate, multiplicative quadratic form. Finite-dimensional composition algebras exist only in dimension 1, 2, 4 and 8 and are in general not associative or unital. Over the real numbers, such algebras are division algebras if and only if they are absolute valued, i.e. READ MORE

20. The Whittaker model of the center of the quantum group and Hecke algebras
Abstract : In 1978 Kostant suggested the Whittaker model of the center of the universal enveloping algebra U(g) of a complex simple Lie algebra g. An essential role in this construction is played by a non-singular character χ of the maximal nilpotent subalgebra n+ ⊂ g. READ MORE
