  2. 2. Potential Flow Panel Methods for the Calculation of Free-surface Flows with Lift

    Author : Carl-Erik Janson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; desingularized; shape optimization; Rankine source; waves; OCTOPUS; dipole; MMA; Dawson operator; boundary layer; vortex; Method of Moving Asymptotes; nonlinear; sailing yacht; four point operator; surface piercing wing; Navier-Stokes; numerical method; lift force; raised panel method; discrete Fourier transform; collocation point shift; potential flow; CFD; free surface; induced drag; SHIPFLOW; dispersion; damping; analytical method; hydrofoil;

    Abstract : Two non-linear Rankine-source panel methods are developed and implemented in the same computer code. The first method uses a four-point upwind operator on the free-surface to compute the velocity derivatives and to enforce the radiation condition while the second method uses an analytical expression for the velocity derivatives and a collocation point shift one panel upstream to prevent upstream waves. 3. 3. Dynamics of bubbles across scales

    Author : Niklas Hidman; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; DNS; multiscale; lift force; scalar mixing; Bubbly flows; multiphase;

    Abstract : This thesis presents numerical investigations of bubbly flow phenomena across a wide range of relevant spatial and temporal scales. The aim is to increase our understanding of a great variety of underlying phenomena and to facilitate improved predictions of bubbly flows at all relevant scales. READ MORE

  4. 4. Fluid dynamics and flow structures of wood fibres suspended in gas flows

    Author : Olof Melander; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; two-fluid model; fibres; flocculation; multiphase flow; flow regimes; particle transport; fibre suspensions; Particle Image Velocimetry; Computational Fluid Dynamics; lift force; concentration measurement;

    Abstract : The flow of wood fibres suspended in gas plays a major role in the MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard) production process. Development of machinery in this industry has traditionally been based on experience. Only recently has the use of numerical methods such as CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) become an important part of the development process. READ MORE

  5. 5. A multidisciplinary system identification of the human precision grip

    Author : Anders Fagergren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : This thesis focus on the unique human ability to pick up and manipulate small objects using the precision grip, i.e., the fine grip between the index finger and the thumb. This ability is formed by the interplay between the complex biomechanical machinery of the hand and the neural networks within the central nervous system. READ MORE
