  1. 1. Non-image-forming effects of light : Implications for the design of living and working environments

    Author : Mathias Adamsson; Thorbjörn Laike; Maria Johansson; Yvonne de Kort; Institutionen för arkitektur och byggd miljö; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; circadian rhythms; circannual; light exposure; melatonin; cortisol; sleep-wake behavior; perception; mood; spectral composition; measurement;

    Abstract : Seasonal variation in mood and subjective well-being are common at geographical locations further away from the equator. The 24-h light-dark cycle is the main time cue for synchronizing the human circadian clock to the external day and night. READ MORE

  2. 2. Year-round production of forest seedlings under LED lamps : Biological and energetic implications of indoor cultivation

    Author : Marco Hernandez Velasco; Uwe Zimmermann; Anders Mattsson; Frank Fiedler; Johanna Riikonen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Picea abies; Pinus sylvestris; year-round cultivation; forest seedlings; LED lamps; light quality; light quantity; daily light integral; adaptive lighting control; greenhouse integrated photovoltaics; agrivoltaics; seedling growth performance; short-day treatments; cold hardiness; light shock stress; Engineering Science; Teknisk fysik;

    Abstract : Year-round cultivation of forest seedlings under light emitting diodes (LED) is a technology receiving increased attention from nurseries in the boreal forest regions. In these areas, the climate is characterized by strong seasonal fluctuations, resulting in short vegetation periods with narrow time windows for seedling transplanting and outdoor growth. READ MORE

  3. 3. Engineered nanomaterials in in vivo and in vitro models

    Author : Laura Abariute; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; III-V semiconductor nanowires; Nanoparticle exposure; Mouse exposure; Cell exposure; Nanotoxicology; Nanosafety; Fysicumarkivet A:2018:Abariute;

    Abstract : Nanotechnology and engineered nanomaterials (ENM) empower existing technologies. One of the great examples are III-V semiconductor nanowires (NW), which have a broad application range. The occupational safety and hazard organizations draw attention to ENM, as their physical and chemical characteristics differ from the ones of bulk materials. READ MORE

  4. 4. Blue light induced retinal damage

    Author : Jiangmei Wu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Visual perception results from a response to radiation between 400 and 760 mu reaching the retina. Photoreceptor cells are differentiated post-mitotic retinal neurons uniquely adapted for the efficient capture of photons and for the initiation of visual transduction. READ MORE

  5. 5. Volatile organic compounds from microorganisms : identification and health effects

    Author : Anna-Sara Claeson; Anna-Lena Sunesson; Jan-Olof Levin; Steven Nordin; Bengt Järvholm; Charles Weschler; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : microorganisms; building materials; VOCs; MVOCs; amines; LC-MS MS; exposure; perceived air quality; Occupational and Environmental Medicine; arbets- och miljömedicin;

    Abstract : Damp building materials are subjected to degradation processes due to moisture and also microbial growth, with both of these giving rise to emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that may contribute to indoor air health problems. The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate emissions of reactive and non-reactive VOCs from damp building materials and from the microorganisms growing on them, and also to investigate the possible health impact of these compounds.
