  1. 1. Extinction in Molecular Clouds : Case of Barnard 335

    Author : Sven Olofsson; Göran Olofsson; Kalevi Mattila; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ISM; interstellar medium; extinction; molecular cloud; Astronomy; astronomi; Astronomy; astronomi;

    Abstract : The Bok globule B335 is a small molecular cloud in the solar neighbourhood near the galactic plane. The aim for this three-paper-study is to construct and analyze the extinction for this globule. The method we apply is to use the light from field stars behind the cloud in broadband filters ranging from UV to the mid-infrared. READ MORE

  2. 2. Light Scattering Effects in Transparent Wood Biocomposites

    Author : Hui Chen; Lars Berglund; Ilya Sychugov; Max Yan; Mikael Sjödahl; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Transparent wood; cellulose; biocomposite; light transmission; anisotropic scattering; Rayleigh scattering; photon budget; photon diffusion theory; light-transparent wood interaction; Transparent trä; cellulosa; biokomposit; ljustransmission; anisotropisk spridning; Rayleigh-spridning; fotonbudget; fotondiffusionsteori; ljus-transparent trä interaktion; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Abstract : Transparent wood (TW) shows interesting optical properties and offers a sustainable alternative to petroleum-based polymer glasses. The influence of the TW internal structure (e.g. READ MORE

  3. 3. Optical investigations and characterization of soot of different morphology and maturity

    Author : Sandra Török; Förbränningsfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Laser-induced incandescence; Extinction; Elastic light scattering; mini-CAST; Soot; Brown carbon; Black carbon; Maturity; Morphology; Fysicumarkivet A:2021:Török;

    Abstract : The formation path from small poorly absorbing incipient soot to larger fractal-like strongly absorbing black soot is extensive, and along this path the optical and physicochemical properties of the soot evolve. Soot emitted into the atmosphere may originate from some stage of this process, which will result in a wide spectrum of carbonaceous aerosols in the atmosphere which may interact with the sun and influence the radiative balance of the earth. 4. 4. Structured Laser Illumination Planar Imaging SLIPI Applications for Spray Diagnostics

    Author : Elias Kristensson; Förbränningsfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; signal attenuation; Multiple light scattering suppression; laser extinction; extinction coefficient; structured illumination; Fysicumarkivet A:2012:Kristensson;

    Abstract : Laser sheet imaging, also known as planar laser imaging, is one of the most versatile optical imaging techniques known and is frequently applied in several different domains. It furthermore constitutes the basis for a variety of other 2D methods, in turn allowing visualization of e.g. velocity, particle size, species concentration and temperature. READ MORE

  5. 5. Extragalactic extinction and spectral properties of Type Ia supernovae

    Author : Linda Östman; Ariel Goobar; Avishay Gal-Yam; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Type Ia supernovae; cosmology; spectroscopy; dust extinction; quasars; axions; Physics; Fysik; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : The use of Type Ia supernovae as standardisable candles for probing cosmological parameters with high precision requires good knowledge about how the supernova light is affected along the line of sight and how the intrinsic brightness varies between objects. The work in this thesis addresses these topics. READ MORE
