  1. 1. Quantum optics in constrained geometries

    Author : Björn Hessmo; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Quantum chemistry; quantum optics; atom optics; complementarity; magnetic traps; laser cooling; quantum information; quantal phases; Kvantkemi; Quantum chemistry; Kvantkemi; Quantum Chemistry; kvantkemi;

    Abstract : When light exhibits particle properties, and when matter exhibits wave properties quantum mechanics is needed to describe physical phenomena. A two-photon source produces nonmaximally entangled photon pairs when the source is small enough to diffract light. It is shown that diffraction degrades the entanglement. READ MORE

  2. 2. Fiber-optic sensors for blood flow and respiration rate measurements

    Author : Erik Stenow; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Optical fibers and fiber-optic sensors have in the last century been subjects for a great interest especially in industry and communication but also in medicine. Optical fibers are used in endoscopes and as light guides for laser surgery. READ MORE

  3. 3. Technology and properties of InP-based photonic crystal structures and devices

    Author : Naeem Shahid; Srinivasan Anand; Rob W. vad der Heijden; KTH; []
    Keywords : Integrated optics materials; Photonic crystals; Planar waveguides; Dispersion; Band-gap; Mode-gap; mini-stopband; InP; Nanostructure fabrication; dry etching; mass transport; material reflow; reliability; SRA - ICT; SRA - Informations- och kommunikationsteknik;

    Abstract : Photonic crystals (PhCs) are periodic dielectric structures that exhibit a photonic band gap; a range of wavelengths for which light propagation is forbidden. 2D PhCs exhibit most of the properties as their three dimension counterparts with a compatibility with standard semiconductor processing techniques such as epitaxial growth, electron beam lithography, Plasma deposition/etching and electromechanical lapping/polishing. 4. 4. Ellipsometry studies of liquid interfaces: New methodology and applications

    Author : Jan-Willem Benjamins; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Surface and boundary layery chemistry; Ytkemi; gränsskikt; phospholipids; lactoglobulin; air water; oil water; block copolymers; nonionic surfactants; Brewster angle microscopy; Ellipsometry; adsorption;

    Abstract : Adsorption of several surface active agents, such as nonionics, diblock copolymers, triblock copolymers, proteins and phospholipids at the oil/water and air/water has been studied. In order to be able to do this, a new ellipsometry setup, which utilizes light guides, was developed and tested. READ MORE

  5. 5. Towards More Specific Microcalorimetric Studies With Special Emphasis on Biological Systems

    Author : Peter Johansson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; isothermal heat conduction micro calorimetry spectrophotometry diode array pH oxygen titration chemical reaction biological bacteria perfusion photo carbon dioxide plant enthalpy Gibbs energy kinetic; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : A new approach in isothermal heat conduction microcalorimetric studies of chemical and biological processes is explored. The general (non-specific) method of calorimetry is combined with more specific analytical methods of analysis to "multi-functional microcalorimetric process monitors". READ MORE
