  1. 1. The Light-up Probe

    Author : Nicke Svanvik; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; asymmetric cyanine dyes; light-up probes; PNA; real-time PCR; LightUp Probe; fluorescent hybridization probes; homogeneous hybridization assays;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis concerns the development of light-up probes and their potential applications in PCR based molecular diagnostics. The light-up probe is a nucleic acid analog (here PNA) oligomer linked to an asymmetric cyanine dye (here thiazole orange) and it combines the excellent hybridization properties of PNA with the large fluorescence enhancement of the dye upon binding to DNA. 2. 2. Light-Induced Yellowing of High-Yield Pulps. The Effect of Acetylation

    Author : Magnus Paulsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; yellowing; mechanical properties; hydroxyl groups; phenolic groups; paper; high-yield pulps; chromophores; model compounds; acetylation; inhibition;

    Abstract : This thesis is a contribution to the understanding of the mechanism of photoyellowing of high-yield pulps. It also gives some general information about the reactivity of different functional groups in lignin towards acetic anhydride. READ MORE

  3. 3. Inhibition of light-induced colour reversion of wood-containing papers by means of coating

    Author : Helena Fjellström; Hans Höglund; Magnus Paulsson; Arthur Ragauskas; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; High-yield pulp; CTMP; birch; light-induced; ageing; photo-stabilising; lignin; coating; pigment; kaolin; calcium carbonate; titanium dioxide; binder; FWA; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : The main purpose of this thesis was to find ways to maintain a low level of light‐induceddiscolouration at an increased addition of mechanical and chemimechanical pulps in coated highqualityfine paper and magazine paper grades. Current technology allows the production of highyieldpulps such as thermomechanical and chemimechanical pulps with properties suitable formanufacturing high‐quality paper or paperboard with a low basis weight. 4. 4. Control of Coherent Extreme Ultraviolet Light and Light Sources

    Author : Neven Ibrakovic; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ultrafast lasers; XUV optics; high-order harmonic generation; quantum path interference; opto-optical modulation; free electron lasers; nitrogen lasing; Fysicumarkivet A:2019:Ibrakovic;

    Abstract : Coherent extreme ultraviolet (XUV) light sources are necessary for the investigation of physical processes in the natural length and time scales of atoms. These experiments require a high degree of control of the coherent XUV light. READ MORE

  5. 5. Neutron-Induced Scintillation in Organics

    Author : Nicholai Mauritzson; Kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; liquid organic scintillator; oil; time-of-flight; neutron tagging; light yield; simulation; calibration; NE 213A; EJ 305; EJ 331; EJ 321P; Source Testing Facility; pedagogy; Fysicumarkivet A:2023:Mauritzson;

    Abstract : Neutrons are widely used as probes of matter to study materials in a broad range of fields from physics, chemistry and medicine to material sciences. Any application utilizing neutrons needs to employ a well-understood and optimized neutron-detector system. READ MORE
