  2. 2. Illumination in single cell optical microscopy studies - friend and foe

    Author : Kristofer Bodvard; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; yeast; transcription factors; signalling; fluorescence microscopy; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; light-induced stress; phototoxicity; single cell imaging;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on how to use light as a biological stress factor in optical microscopy experiments and simultaneously use the illumination to image the spatial and temporal protein dynamics in single yeast cells. The stress responses to environmental changes other than light have been extensively investigated in budding yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, often using techniques based on population averages. 3. 3. On the mechanism and consequences of light-induced D₁ protein degradation in higher plants

    Author : Ivar Virgin; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : The basic source of energy for the whole biosphere is sunlight which is converted tochemical energy by the process of photosynthesis in a wide variety of organisms rangingfrom prokaryotic bacteria to eukaryotic higher plants. It is therefore surprising thatphotosynthetic activity can be reduced when plants are exposed to excessive light,especially under adverse environmental conditions. READ MORE

  4. 4. Arabidopsis thaliana as a model organism from a biochemical perspective and The use of early light-induced proteins as a light stress marker

    Author : Hanna Norén; Gunnar Öquist; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : In the photosynthetic process higher plants, green algae and cyanobacteria convert light energy from the sun into carbohydrates, products essential to maintain life on earth. Even though sunlight is an essential condition for life it can also cause damage to plants. READ MORE

  5. 5. Light stress proteins from Arabidopsis thaliana : identification, characterisation and expression

    Author : Mounia Heddad; Phillip Mullineaux; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Plants are major players in the vital process of photosynthesis that takes place in organelles called chloroplasts. Plant's immobility makes them victims of the tremendous fluctuations in light intensity and quality that often lead to inhibition of their physiological functions. READ MORE
