  1. 1. Non-invasive measurement of skeletal muscle blood flow using by photoplethysmography. Experimental studies on the human leg

    Author : Qiuxia Zhang; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; photoplethysmography; skeletal muscle blood flow; perfusion pressure; intramuscular pressure; venous obstruction; muscle exercise; non-invasive; limb elevation; vibration exposure; hyperaemia; foot pump.;

    Abstract : The purpose of this thesis was to validate a new non-invasive photoplethysmography (PPG) method for measuring relative changes in local muscle blood flow (MBF) in the human leg. Experimental conditions expected to impede or increase local MBF were used to test responsiveness of the PPG. READ MORE

  2. 2. Isolated regional perfusion for metastases of malignant melanoma - Clinical and experimental studies

    Author : Roger Olofsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Malignant melanoma; Uveal melanoma; Isolated limb perfusion; Isolated hepatic perfusion; Immunology; Exosomes;

    Abstract : Background: Isolated regional perfusion is a treatment option mainly for localized metastatic disease. The principle idea is to surgically isolate a region of the body and connect the circulation to a heart-lung machine. A high concentration of a chemotherapeutic agent is then delivered to the tumour, while systemic toxicity is avoided. READ MORE

  3. 3. Nerve conduction and vibrotactile perception thresholds in female computer workers and hand-arm vibration-exposed male manual workers

    Author : Helena Sandén; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Computer use; Hand-arm vibration; Chronic upper limb pain; Nerve conduction; Vibrotactile perception threshold; Mood; Bicycle ergometer test; Temperature;

    Abstract : Upper limb pain and disability are common problems, especially among working populations. The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate peripheral nerve function in the upper limb by nerve conduction test and vibration threshold test in working populations including female computer users (n = 82), hand-arm vibration-exposed male manual workers (n = 116), and female workers with chronic diffuse upper limb pain (n = 35). 4. 4. Methodological aspects of toe blood pressure measurements for evaluation of arterial insuffiency in patients with diabetes

    Author : Hans-Ivar Påhlsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Lower limb ischemia; diabetes; foot ulcerations; toe blood pressure; ankle blood pressure; biphasic curve pattern; cuff width; laser Doppler; automatic pressure measurements;

    Abstract : Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a growing health problem in the aging population of the western world with prevalence figures around 6-7%, which are increasing fast. Treatment of this disease is complex and expensive for society. One of the most feared DM complications is foot ulcerations. READ MORE

  5. 5. Pulse oximetry : methodological considerations : experimental, in vitro and human investigations

    Author : Magnus Vegfors; Ola Stenqvist; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Pulse oximeters monitor non-invasively the haemoglobin oxygen saturation. Light of two specific wavelengths, red and infrared light, is shined through a tissue, usually the finger, and the intensity of the light transmitted is measured. Oxyhaemoglobin absorbs the light differently when compared to reduced haemoglobin. READ MORE
