  1. 1. Sintering in the Kraft Pulp Mill - Studies in the Rotary Kiln and Recovery Boiler

    Author : Josefina Lindblom; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; sintering; recovery boiler dust; recovery boiler; solid state diffusion; rotary kiln; lime mud; lime; sintering model; specific surface area;

    Abstract : The conversion of black liquor to white liquor is carried out in the chemical recovery system, which is made up of several units; in two of them, i.e. the recovery boiler and the rotary kiln, sintering plays an important role. READ MORE

  2. 2. Dusting in a lime kiln - Characterization of the material and unit operations

    Author : Henric C O Dernegård; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; terminal velocity; Dusting lime kiln; fines; lime mud filter; ESP-dust; reactivity;

    Abstract : The present thesis describes the background of, and gives some points of orientation for, the phenomenon of dusting in the burner zone of a lime kiln. The aim of this study is twofold: to increase knowledge of the factors that influence the degree of dusting and also to investigate the effect a dusting lime kiln has on the white liquor preparation process. 3. 3. Alkaline by-products as amendments for remediation of historic mine sites

    Author : Lotta Sartz; Bert Allard; Ernest Yanful; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Oxidized mine waste; lime mud; green liquor dregs; fly ash; lime kiln dust; steel slag; water works granules; Oxiderat gruvavfall; mesakalk; grönlut; flygaska; filterkalk; stålslagg; vattenverksgranuler; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; Enviromental Science; Miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Mining has been and still is an important industry in Sweden, it has strongly contributed to the standard of living we have today. Extraction of ore began in the 12th century, but did not come about frequently until the 16th century, which is often seen as the starting age for ore processing and metal extraction. READ MORE

  4. 4. Stabilization of fine-grained soils in cold environment and exposed to seasonal frost : By-products as hydraulic binders

    Abstract : This doctoral thesis deals with the stabilization of fine-grained soils using by-product originated hydraulic binders. The use of fine-grained soils as subsoil for infrastructure projects is often limited because of the risk for instability. READ MORE

  5. 5. Suitability of industrial residues for preventing acid rock drainage generation from waste rock

    Author : Elsa Nyström; Lena Alakangas; Hanna Kaasalainen; Christian Maurice; Päivi M. Kauppila; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geochemistry; Tillämpad geokemi;

    Abstract : One of the main and most challenging environmental problems related to mining is the generation of acid rock drainage (ARD), a leachate characterized by low pH and elevated concentrations of sulfate, metals, and metalloids formed when sulfide-bearing minerals are subjected to oxygen and water. During the operation of a mine, waste rock is often deposited in heaps and usually left under ambient conditions, enabling sulfides to oxidize. READ MORE
