1. Biochemical Control Aspects in Lignin Polymerization
Abstract : Lignins are produced by all vascular plants and they represent one of the most abundant groups of biopolymers in nature. Lignin chemistry research, which has been of great importance for the progress of pulping technologies, has been plagued by the difficulties of its isolation and characterization. READ MORE

2. A paleolimnological perspective on liming – implications for defining reference conditions in Swedish lakes
Abstract : Using paleolimnological techniques, I have studied surface-water acidification and the effects of liming in Swedish lakes on a decadal to millennial time-scale. The overall objective was to contribute to the discussion on the fulfilment of goals within the Swedish liming program. READ MORE

3. Reproductive strategies and liming responses in forest field-layer flora
Abstract : Liming increased species richness, in accordance with the species pool hypothesis, and number of plants of individual species in beech forest field-layer vegetation, by increasing establishment by seedlings and vegetative offspring. Turnover rates also increased, suggesting the explanatory value of the carousel model. READ MORE

4. Iron and aluminium speciation in Swedish freshwaters : Implications for geochemical modelling
Abstract : Speciation governs transport and toxicity of trace metals and is important to monitor in natural waters. Geochemical models that predict speciation are valuable tools for monitoring. They can be used for risk assessments and future scenarios such as termination of liming. READ MORE

5. Plant responses after drainage and restoration in rich fens
Abstract : Rich fens are an important, but threatened, habitat type in the boreal landscape. In this thesis I have examined responses of rich fen vascular plants and bryophytes after drainage and restoration. The effects of drainage on the rich fen flora were observed in a long time study and the responses were rapid and drastic.
