  1. 1. Traps and transformations : Exploring the potential of water system innovations in dryland sub-Saharan Africa

    Author : Elin Enfors; Line Gordon; Christian Valentin; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : smallholder farming; water system innovations; agricultural droughts; multi-functional landscapes; development trajectories; uncertainty; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; naturresurshushållning; Natural Resources Management;

    Abstract : In semi-arid and dry sub-humid sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), high poverty levels and a heavy reliance on small-scale rainfed agriculture make rural livelihoods difficult. Upgrading current farming systems, in a way that safeguards productivity beyond field-scale, is urgent. READ MORE

  2. 2. Traffic Simulation Modelling of Rural Roads and Driver Assistance Systems

    Author : Andreas Tapani; Jan Lundgren; Haris N. Koutsopoulos; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Traffic; Micro; Simulation; Model; Car following; Rural road; Driver; Fatigue; Rumble strip; Adaptive cruise control; Active safety system; Safety; Evaluation; Overtaking; Traffic lane; Mathematical model; Thesis; Road: Traffic theory; Road: Traffic theory; TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Microscopic traffic simulation has proven to be a useful tool for analysis of varioustraffic systems. This thesis consider microscopic traffic simulation of rural roads andthe use of traffic simulation for evaluation of driver assistance systems. READ MORE

  3. 3. The driver response process in assisted and automated driving

    Author : Linda Pipkorn; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; automation safety; take-over request; driver behavior; response process; automated driving; driving performance;

    Abstract : Background: Safe assisted and automated driving can be achieved through a detailed understanding of the driver response process (the timing and quality of driver actions and visual behavior) triggered by an event such as a take-over request or a safety-relevant event. Importantly, most current evidence on driver response process in vehicle automation, and on automation effects (unsafe response process) is based on driving-simulator studies, whose results may not generalize to the real world. 4. 4. Peak and Power Reduction in Multicarrier Communication Systems

    Author : Niklas Andgart; Institutionen för elektro- och informationsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Telekommunikationsteknik; line driver; Signal processing; Signalbehandling; Telecommunication engineering; power reduction; DSL; DMT; tone reservation; PAR; Peak to average ratio;

    Abstract : Broadband multicarrier communication suffers from a large signal span, causing problems in both wireless and wireline systems. This is commonly referred to as a high peak to average ratio (PAR), and leads to a high power consumption, which is an important limitation in many communication systems. READ MORE

  5. 5. Mind off driving: Effects of cognitive load on driver glance behaviour and response times

    Author : Emma Nilsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cognitive load; visual behaviour; lead vehicle braking; traffic safety; distraction; response times; driver behaviour; intersections;

    Abstract : Introduction: Safe driving requires drivers to look at relevant information in the traffic environment and react in time in case a critical event arises. Concerns exist that cognitively loading tasks might interfere with drivers’ abilities to do this. READ MORE
