  1. 1. From Personal to Impersonal Exchange in Ideas : Experimental Study of Trade in Organized Markets for Patents

    Author : Eskil Ullberg; Björn Hårsman; Thomas W. Hazlett; KTH; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; experimental economics; patent markets; patents; mechanism design; linear contracts; institutional design; patent system design; economic system design; development policy; Business and economics; Ekonomi;

    Abstract : The patent system has developed over a period of over 500 years. The initial motivation was a desire to import privately held technology to advance economic development, offering excluding and transferrable rights through licensing to “inventors” for the disclosure and perfection of their “contrivance” (invention). 2. 2. Cost optimization of maintenance scheduling for wind turbines with aging components

    Author : Quanjiang Yu; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Integer linear optimization; Age-based preventive maintenance scheduling; Renewal-reward theorem; Weibull distribution; Combinatorial optimization; Wind turbine maintenance; Virtual replacement; Condition monitoring data; Cox proportional hazards method; Linear programming;

    Abstract : A major part of the wind turbine operation cost is resulted from the maintenance of its components. This thesis deals with the theory, algorithms, and applications concerning minimization of the maintenance cost of wind power turbines, using mathematical modelling to find the optimal schedules of preventive maintenance activities for multi-component systems. 3. 3. Flexible Embedded Control Systems : Design and Implementation

    Author : Johan Eker; Institutionen för reglerteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Automation; Feedback scheduling; Quality of service; Linear quadratic control; Toolbox; Simulation; Rapid prototyping; Programming language; Scheduling; Embedded systems; Real-time system; robotics; control engineering; Automatiska system; robotteknik; reglerteknik;

    Abstract : Embedded control system design is a complex and error prone task, and there is a great need for better development tools. Today most real-time control systems are static systems, designed in an ad-hoc fashion. A more interactive way of working would give shorter development times, reduced costs for testing, and safer, more robust systems. READ MORE

  4. 4. On specification and inference in the econometrics of public procurement

    Author : David Sundström; Kurt Brännäs; Sofia Lundberg; Michael Visser; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; auctions; dependent variable transformation model; green public procurement; indirect inference; instrumental variable; latent variable; log-generalized gamma distribution; maximum likelihood; measurement error; non-linear least squares; objective effectiveness; orthogonal polynomial regression; prediction; simulation estimation; structural estimation; nationalekonomi; Economics; Econometrics; ekonometri;

    Abstract : In Paper [I] we use data on Swedish public procurement auctions for internal regularcleaning service contracts to provide novel empirical evidence regarding green publicprocurement (GPP) and its effect on the potential suppliers’ decision to submit a bid andtheir probability of being qualified for supplier selection. We find only a weak effect onsupplier behavior which suggests that GPP does not live up to its political expectations. READ MORE

  5. 5. Asymptotic Analysis of Hedging Errors Induced by Discrete Time Hedging

    Author : Mats Brodén; Matematisk statistik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Discrete time hedging; discretization error; L2 convergence; Non-linear Kalman filters; Calibration;

    Abstract : The first part of this thesis deals with approximations of stochastic integrals and discrete time hedging of derivative contracts; two closely related subjects. Paper A considers the problem of approximating the value of a Wiener process. READ MORE
