  1. 11. Understanding the Influence of Wood Extractives on Off-Gassing during Storage of Wood Pellets

    Author : Workson Siwale; Jonas Berghel; Gunnar Henriksson; Michael Finell; Stefan Frodeson; Gunnar Johansson; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Off-gassing; Carbon Monoxide; Carbon Dioxide; Methane; Self-heating; Additive Oils; Fatty and Resin Acids; Solid Biofuels; Miljö- och energisystem; Environmental and Energy Systems;

    Abstract : Wood pellets have become a solid biomass fuel of choice because they are a standardized product with known quality properties. However, the self-heating and off-gassing tendencies during storage of wood pellets threatens the consistency of the pellets’ quality properties. READ MORE

  2. 12. Mitigating Off-Gassing and Self-Heating in Fuel Wood Pellets Storage : A Raw Materials Selection and Pre-Treatment Centred Approach

    Author : Workson Siwale; Jonas Berghel; Gunnar Henriksson; Michael Finell; Stefan Frodeson; Mani Sudhagar; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; solid biofuels; densified biomass; heat generation; off-gas emissions; carbon monoxide; carbon dioxide; methane; fatty and resin acids; Miljö- och energisystem; Environmental and Energy Systems;

    Abstract : Wood pellets have become a preferred solid biomass fuel for heat and power generation due to their standardized nature, known properties, and consistent quality. However, pellets produced from fresh sawdust sometimes undergo self-heating and off-gassing during storage. This poses a challenge for their transportation and storage. READ MORE

  3. 13. Moisture-related properties of modified timber - an experimental study

    Author : Hannah Epmeier; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : Scots pine; material properties; chemical modification; building components; timber; bending creep;

    Abstract : Wood has long traditions as a structural and building material. In those cases in which its natural features are not sufficient, chemical modification can eliminate some shortcomings. READ MORE

  4. 14. Thermally cured coil-coatings utilizing novel resins and fatty acid methyl esters as reactive diluents

    Author : Katarina Johansson; Mats Johansson; Rolf van Benthem; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Coatings; Coil-coatings; Thermal cure; Reactive diluents; Fatty acids; Transesterification; Hyperbranched polyester resins; Film properties; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi;

    Abstract : Solvent-borne thermally cured coil-coating resins contain large amounts of volatile organic solvents in order to obtain suitable flow for film application. This work describes how the expensive and environmental hazardous volatile organic solvent content of a solvent-borne thermally cured polyester/melamine coil-coating system can be reduced by introduction of fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs) as reactive diluents and modification of the polyester binder resin. 5. 15. Waterborne Alkyd-Acrylic Hybrids with High Solids Content -Preparation and Properties-

    Author : Mehrnoush Jowkar Deriss; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biopolymers; Polymer technology; Polymerteknik;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis concerns the preparation, characterization and film formation of a waterborne alkyd-acrylic hybrid system with high solids content of about 80 %. The alkyd-acrylic hybrids were prepared by slowly adding a linseed oil alkyd to an acrylic latex dispersion under stirring. READ MORE
