16. Lipase Specificity and Selectivity : Engineering, Kinetics and Applied Catalysis
Abstract : The specificity and selectivity of the enzyme Candida antarctica lipase B (CALB) were studiedfor several substrates and applications. With help of molecular modeling, the active site of CALB was redesigned for the ring openingpolymerization of D,D‐lactide. READ MORE

17. Enzymes as catalysts in synthesis of enantiomerically pure building blocks : secondary alcohols bearing two vicinal stereocenters
Abstract : Enzymes as tools in organic synthesis have provided enormous advantages. This thesis deals with the applications of enzymes in the kinetic resolutions of racemic compounds. The stereochemistry of chiral compounds and the kinetics of α/β hydrolase lipases are presented. READ MORE

18. Building blocks for polymer synthesis by enzymatic catalysis
Abstract : The search for alternatives to oil-based monomers has sparked interest for scientists to focus on the use of renewable resources for energy production, for the synthesis of polymeric materials and in other areas. With the use of renewable resources, scientists face new challenges to first isolate interesting molecules and then to process them. READ MORE

19. Enantioselective biotransformations using engineered lipases from Candida antarctica
Abstract : Enzymes are attractive catalysts in organic synthesis since they are efficient, selective and environmentally friendly. A large number of enzyme-catalyzed transformations have been described in the literature. READ MORE

20. Enzyme substrate solvent interactions : a case study on serine hydrolases
Abstract : Reaction rates and selectivities were measured for transacylation of fatty acid esters in solvents catalysed by Candida antarctica lipase B and by cutinase from Humicola insolens. With these enzymes classical water-based enzymology can be expanded to many different solvents allowing large variations in interaction energies between the enzymes, the substrates and the surrounding.
