  1. 1. Aliphatic Polyesters for Soft Tissue Engineering : Development from Conventional Organometallic to Novel Enzymatic Catalysis

    Author : Rajiv Kumar Srivastava; Ann-Christine Albertsson; Stanishaw Penzzek; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aliphatic polyester; 1; 5-dioxepan-2-one; ε-caprolactone; L-lactide; D-lactide; D; L-lactide; enzyme; lipase CA; lipase PS; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi;

    Abstract : The development of macromolecules with defined structure and properties, aimed specifically for biomedical applications, has resulted in diverse biodegradable polymers with advanced architectures. Among them, aliphatic polyesters synthesized by ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of lactones and lactides have a leading position due to their good mechanical properties, hydrolyzability and biocompatibility. 2. 2. Lipase catalysed reactions of terpenoids : formation of hemiacetal esters : resolution of cryptone and its transformation to cadinenes

    Author : Dan Isaksson; Fredrik Almqvist; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; terpenoid; lipase; resolution; hemiacetal; hemiacetal ester; enantioselective; synthesis; cryptone; cadinene; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : During attempted enzyme-catalysed resolution of sterically hindered secondary alcohols, hemiacetals and their esters were unexpectedly detected. Hemiacetal esters are reactive compounds that decompose to alcohol, aldehyde and acid under ordinary work-up conditions i.e. in contact with water, acid, or silica gel. READ MORE

  3. 3. 1. Asymmetric aldol and alkylation reactions using pyrrolidine-based chiral auxiliaries 2. Syntheses of pine sawfly pheromone precursors and structurally related compounds

    Author : Fredrik Andersson; KTH; []

    Abstract : This thesis describes the syntheses of the 1-propionylatedauxiliaries (S)-(− )-2-(pyrrolidin-2-yl)propan-2-ol and (S)-(− )-2-(1-methoxy-1-methylethyl)pyrrolidine andtheir use in asymmetric aldol and alkylation reactions. Thesynthesis of 1-propionylated (2S,4R) 2-{4-[(tert-butyldimethylsilyl)oxy]pyrrolidin-2-yl}propan-2-olis also described. READ MORE

  4. 4. Enantioselective Synthesis of Sec-Alcohol Derivatives and Diols via Combined Ruthenium and Enzyme Catalysis

    Author : Linnéa Borén; Jan-Erling Bäckvall; Romas Kazlauskas; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; catalysis; kinetic resolution; ruthenium catalyst; Dynamic kinetic resolution; Dynamic Kinetic Asymmetric Transformation; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry; organisk kemi;

    Abstract : The first part of this thesis describes the synthesis of enantiopure secondary alcohol derivatives. These syntheses are carried out via the combination of an enzyme as a resolution catalyst and a ruthenium catalyst as a racemization catalyst, in what is called dynamic kinetic resolution (DKR). 5. 5. Deracemization of Functionalized Alcohols via Combined Ruthenium and Enzyme Catalysis

    Author : Ann-Britt L. Fransson; Jan-Erling Bäckvall; Hans-Erik Högberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : The major part of this thesis describes the synthesis of enantiopure alcohols and diols by combining ruthenium-catalyzed racemization or epimerization and lipase-catalyzed asymmetric transformations. A minor part of this thesis is focused on ruthenium-catalyzed redox reactions for transfer hydrogenation of 1,3-cycloalkanediketones. READ MORE
