  1. 1. Expression and Mutagenesis studies of Candida antactica lipase B

    Author : Johanna C. Rotticci-Mulder; KTH; []
    Keywords : Protein expression; Candida antarctica lipase B; Pichia pastoris; site-directed mutagenesis; fermentation; selection;

    Abstract : Recombinant Candida antarctica lipase B was successfullyproduced in the methylotropic yeast Pichia pastoris. Thespecific activities of Candida antarctica lipase B produced inPichia pastoris and commercial Candida antarctica lipase B fromNovozymes were the same. In shake-flask cultivations theexpression levels were about 25 mg L-1. READ MORE

  2. 2. Lipid Turnover in Plants and Yeast, A Study of Storage Lipid Synthesis and Lipid-Based Signalling in Plants and Yeast

    Author : Maria Gustavsson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Växtbiokemi; Plant biochemistry; turnover; plasma membrane; plant; PLA2; biosynthesis; S. cerevisiae; triacylglycerol;

    Abstract : In this thesis, lipid biosynthesis is discussed focussing on the genes and enzymes involved in the final step of storage lipid synthesis, on the enzyme phospholipase A2, and on cell membrane lipid homeostasis. The investigation of lipid metabolism revealed that in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, there are four genes that are essential for the final step of storage lipid biosynthesis; ARE1, ARE2, DGA1, and LRO1. 3. 3. Poly (3-hydroxybutyrate) from a moderate halophile: production and modification for new applications

    Author : Marlene Munoz; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biopolymers; polyhydroxyalkanoates; polyhydroxybutyrate; moderate halophile; Halomonas boliviensis; fermentation; recovery; thermally induced phase separation; scaffolds; covalent modification; hydrophobic ion pairing; polyethylenemine; lysozyme.;

    Abstract : Polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) is a homopolymer belonging to the family of biopolyesters, polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) produced by different bacteria and archaea as intracellular granules often under conditions of metabolic stress due to a limited supply of essential nutrients. The properties of the PHAs are similar to those of polyethylene and polypropylene and can hence replace these fossil based polymers in a large variety of applications. READ MORE

  4. 4. Nutrition of Arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus) and Eurasian perch (Perca fluviatilis) and evaluation of alternative protein sources

    Author : Markus Langeland; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to estimate the dietary lysine requirement of Eurasian perch (Perca fluviatilis), to study the digestive enzyme activity in perch and Arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus) and the utilization of meals of microbial and mussel meals. Juvenile Eurasian perch were fed semi-purified diets containing graded levels of lysine (12. READ MORE

  5. 5. Complement receptor-mediated signal transduction in human neutrophils : A role for protein kinase C in the phagocytic process

    Author : Maria Fällman; Claes B. Wollheim; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The neutrophil granulocyte comprises the first line of human defense against invading microorganisms. A versatile motile machinery enables the cell to migrate to the inflammatory site and there engulf and destroy the pathogens by phagocytosis. READ MORE
