  1. 21. Antimicrobial Peptide Interactions with Phospholipid Membranes : Effects of Peptide and Lipid Composition on Membrane Adsorption and Disruption

    Author : Adam A Strömstedt; Martin Malmsten; Georges Belfort; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; antimicrobial; peptide; adsorption; liposome; membrane; melittin; cholesterol; tryptophan; phospholipid; bilayer; PHARMACY; FARMACI; Pharmaceutical Physical Chemistry; farmaceutisk fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : The interactions between antimicrobial peptides and phospholipid membranes were investigated, in terms of lipid headgroup variations and the role of cholesterol, as well as peptide composition and structure. Also strategies for increasing proteolytic stability were evaluated. READ MORE

  2. 22. Effects of Ubiquinone-10 on the Stability and Mechanical Properties of Lipid Membranes

    Author : Emma K. Eriksson; Katarina Edwards; Victor Agmo Hernández; Emma Sparr; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ubiquinone-10; lipid bilayers; membrane stabilizer; liposome permeability; osmotic shock; cuvettes; solanesol; Chemistry with specialization in Physical Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : Ubiquinones are a group of fat-soluble molecules present in many biological membranes. The most abundant version in humans, ubiquinone-10 (Q10), plays an important role in the mitochondrial respiration chain and also functions as a powerful antioxidant. Accumulating evidence suggests that Q10 also could have other functions in the membrane. READ MORE

  3. 23. NMR studies on lipid-peptide co-aggregation between ganglioside-containing membranes and α-synuclein

    Author : Simon Fridolf; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; protein aggregation; nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy; lipid membrane; ganglioside; alpha-synuclein;

    Abstract : This topic of this thesis is how the presence of biomembrane molecules affect the behavior of a protein related to Parkinson’s disease in a simplified (compared to in the cell) model system.Lipids are fat molecules that make up the biological barriers in our body that control transport of essential molecules in and out of the cell and create an environment where membrane proteins can perform their functions. 4. 24. Membrane Proteins in Human Neutrophils - Identification and Characterization of Lipid Rafts in Subcellular Organelles

    Author : Elisabeth Feuk-Lagerstedt; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Human neutrophils; Subcellular organelles; Membrane proteins; Lipid rafts; DRMs;

    Abstract : The human neutrophil is an important effector cell in acute inflammation and in the innate immune response against bacteria and fungi. When immune reactions occur in the tissue in response to antigen challenge, neutrophils are the first cells to enter the site of inflammation. READ MORE

    Author : Yujia Jing; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cationic lipid; asymmetry; phospholipase; liposomes; flip-flop; hyperthermia; phase transition; supported lipid membranes; drug delivery;

    Abstract : Abstract Sophisticated liposomal systems are emerging at an increasing rate to meet the demands for multifunctional drug carriers in chemotherapies in combined with hyperthermia. For example, liposomal drug carriers for temperature-controlled drug release under hyperthermic conditions have recently been tested in clinical trials. READ MORE
