1. Lipid peroxidation in vivo : Evaluation and application of methods for measurement
Abstract : Lipid peroxidation is thought to be an important factor in the pathophysiology of a number of diseases and in the process of ageing, but its measurement in vivo has been difficult. The aim of this thesis was to evaluate methods for measurement of lipid peroxidation in vivo that are suitable for clinical investigations, and to apply these methods in animal and human studies investigating basal conditions and situations associated with increased lipid peroxidation. 2. Cardiac lipid storage and metabolism following myocardial ischemia
Abstract : Myocardial ischemia is associated with cellular- and metabolic adjustments within the heart, including accumulation of lipids. Myocardial lipids are stored in cytosolic droplets, consisting of a core of neutral lipids surrounded by a complex surface containing proteins, such as perilipins. READ MORE

3. DNA-Controlled Lipid-Membrane Fusion
Abstract : Membrane fusion is essential for nerve-cell communication, for protein transport between cell organelles and the cell-membrane and for enabling the merger between virus and host membranes during virus infection. We have demonstrated that short DNA oligonucleotides, membrane-attached via CH in an orientation that mimics the overall zipperlike architecture of fusion-inducing proteins, induce fusion of both suspended vesicles and vesicles site-specifically tethered to SLBs. 4. On the two forms of amylose-lipid complexes
Abstract : This thesis is about the formation of amylose-lipid complexes, and their properties. Two forms of superstructures can be identified. Complex form I has more randomly distributed helices, while the structure of form II is crystalline and therefore exhibits the typical V-pattern in X-ray diffraction analyses. READ MORE

5. Lipid Vesicle Fusion: Investigation, Generation and Manipulation of Cell-Membrane Mimics
Abstract : Membrane fusion is essential for nerve-cell communication, for protein transport between cell organelles and the cell-membrane and for enabling the merger between virus and host membranes during virus infection. In this work, cell-membrane mimics were constructed and evaluated as models for studies of the membrane-fusion process. READ MORE
