  1. 1. α-synuclein interactions with lipid membranes

    Author : Katarzyna Makasewicz; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; alpha-Synuclein; lipid membranes; protein-lipid interactions; binding cooperativity; membrane remodeling; protei-lipid co-aggregation;

    Abstract : α-synuclein is an intrinsically disordered protein implicated in synaptic vesicle trafficking at the synapse. Accumulation of α-synuclein in the form of amyloid deposits coincides with the loss of dopaminergic neurons in Parkinsons disease. READ MORE

  2. 2. Human intestinal alkaline phosphatase : tissue expression and serum levels

    Author : Ulla Domar; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Human alkaline phosphatase; intestinal alkaline phosphatase; blood; blood group; lipid; monoclonal antibody; immunohistochemistry; liver; kidney; pancreas; liver disease; inflammatory bowel disease;

    Abstract : Human alkaline phosphatase (ALP) comprises four isozymes, viz liver/bone/ kidney or tissue unspecific (AP), intestinal (LAP), placental (PLAP) and germ cell or PLAP-like alkaline phosphatase, with their main expression in specific tissues as indicated by their names. The isozymes are coded by different genes, but they are closely related, with more than 50% amino acid sequence homologies. READ MORE

  3. 3. Tethered Lipid Vesicles as Nanoscale Sensor Elements

    Author : Seyed Tabaei; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; aquaglyceroporin; lipid vesicles; total internal reflection fluorescence TIRF microscopy; cell membrane; aquaporin; pore formation; surface plasmon resonance SPR ; phospholipase A2; antiviral peptide; lipid bilayer; biosensing; microfluidics;

    Abstract : The primary aim of this thesis work has been to explore and advance the potential of surface tethered lipid vesicles as a platform for studying in particular the following three biomembrane-related processes: trans-membrane transport, membrane-peptide interactions and the activity of membrane active enzymes. First, a method based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR) spectroscopy was developed for studying passive diffusion processes as well as the membrane-protein mediated transport of small non electrolyte molecules across lipid bilayers. 4. 4. Adherence to lipid-lowering medications and cardiovascular disease prevention in type 2 diabetes mellitus

    Author : Sofia A. Karlsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; medication adherence; refill adherence; medication persistence; pharmacoepidemiology; lipid-lowering medications; type 2 diabetes mellitus; cardiovasular disease; all-cause mortality; cardiovascular mortality; guideline adherence;

    Abstract : Background and aims: Globally, cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the major cause of death among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Improved control of LDL cholesterol with lipid-lowering medications and patients’ adherence to such medications have been shown associate with lower risk of CV events and mortality among T2DM patients. 5. 5. Membrane mediated aggregation of amyloid-β protein : a potential key event in Alzheimer's disease

    Author : Marcus Bokvist; Gerhard Gröbner; Göran Lindblom; Lena Mäler; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Alzheimer’s Disease; Aβ40; Circular Dichroism; NMR; Amyloids; Crowding; Peptide-Lipid Interaction; Biophysical chemistry; Biofysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : The pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD), the most common senile dementia, is a complex process. A crucial event in AD is the aggregation of amyloid-β protein (Aβ), a cleavage product from the Amyloid Precursor Protein (APP). READ MORE
