  1. 1. The assembly of cytosolic lipid droplets and its effect on insulin sensitivity

    Author : Pontus Boström; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Keywords : diabetes; lipid metabolism; insulin resistance; lipid droplets; ADFP; SNARE;

    Abstract : Accumulation of neutral lipids, in particular triglycerides, in non-adipocytes is highly related to the development of insulin resistance and its consequences, type-2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. The accumulation of triglycerides occurs in so-called lipid droplets in the cytosol. READ MORE

  2. 2. Cardiac lipid storage and metabolism following myocardial ischemia

    Author : Christina Drevinge; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Keywords : Lipid accumulation; Myocardial Ischemia; Lipid droplets; Perilipin2; Perilipin5;

    Abstract : Myocardial ischemia is associated with cellular- and metabolic adjustments within the heart, including accumulation of lipids. Myocardial lipids are stored in cytosolic droplets, consisting of a core of neutral lipids surrounded by a complex surface containing proteins, such as perilipins. READ MORE

  3. 3. Studies on the assembly of cytosolic lipid droplets. Importance of Phospholipase D and ADRP in the process

    Author : Denis Marchesan; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Keywords : Lipid droplets; triglycerides; caveolin; Phospholipase D PLD ; adipocyte differentiation related protein ADRP ; EGCG;

    Abstract : The storage of triglycerides in cells such as adipocytes, liver or muscle cells is of great physiological importance, having implications for our most important metabolic diseases such as obesity, the metabolic syndrome and type II diabetes. A common denominator in these diseases is the insulin resistance, which is also highly related to the production of atherogenic lipoproteins and the development of atherosclerosis and consequently cardio-vascular diseases. 4. 4. Cardiac lipids and their role in the diseased heart

    Author : Ismena Mardani; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiovascular disease; Lipid droplets; Perilipins; Lipid accumulation; Metabolism; GlcCer;

    Abstract : Lipids play an essential role within the heart as they are involved in energy storage, membrane stability and signaling. Changes in cardiac lipid composition and utilization may thus have profound effects on cardiac function. Importantly, the diseased heart is associated with intracellular metabolic abnormalities, including accumulation of lipids. READ MORE

  5. 5. Interorganellar connectivity : From protein to lipid homeostasis

    Author : Carlotta Peselj; Sabrina Büttner; Tim Levine; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Interorganellar connectivity; nucleus; NVJs; chronic lipid bilayer stress; glucose and phosphate exhaustion; nutritional regimes; transmembrane chaperone; IPTP; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Abstract : Interorganellar connectivity is fundamental for the maintenance of organellar and cellular functionality and viability. This is achieved and maintained by a complex network of signaling cascades, vesicle trafficking between organelles as well as by establishment of direct physical contact at membrane contact sites (MCS).
