  1. 16. Lipid metabolism in the pancreatic beta-cell. Implications for insulin secretion

    Author : Malin Fex; Celiaki och diabetes; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi; Endocrinology; secreting systems; Lipid metabolism; Insulin secretion; Beta-cells;

    Abstract : We have investigated the role of lipid metabolism with regard to beta-cell function and insulin secretion. Lipids are known to play a crucial functional role in the pancreatic beta-cell, where they are essential for adequate hormone release, but may also exert a long-term toxic effect, leading to beta-cell dysfunction. 2. 17. Lipid storage and secretion. Studies on VLDL assembly and foam cell formation

    Author : Björn Magnusson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : ADP-ribosylation factor 1; very low density lipoprotein; lipid droplet; adipocyte differentiation-related protein; hypoxia; foam cell;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with formation of two factors of upmost importance for the development of atherosclerosis: the triglyceride rich very low density lipoproteins 1 (VLDL1) and the lipid loaded macrophages ("foam cells"- characteristic features of the atherosclerotic lesion). Both these processes depend on the cellular accumulation of lipids. READ MORE

  3. 18. Lipid Oxidation in Fillets of Herring (Clupea harengus) during Processing and Storage

    Author : Ingrid Undeland; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; lipid oxidation; processing; storage; fish; Herring; Clupea harengus;

    Abstract : The influence of storage and processing on the development of lipid oxidation in herring fillets was investigated and related to their composition of lipids, catalysts and antioxidants. The progress of oxidation was monitored as antioxidant loss and as the development of primary, secondary and tertiary lipid oxidation products. READ MORE

  4. 19. The role of PPARalpha and growth hormone in hepatic lipid metaboism and atherosclerosis

    Author : Anna Ljungberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : growth hormone; PPARalpha; atherosclerosis; lipid metabolism; fatty acids; apoB; ; ADRP; triglycerides; PGC-1; liver;

    Abstract : Dyslipidemia mainly results from oversecretion of apoB-containing lipoproteins from theliver and is one of the most important risk factors for the development of atherosclerosis.Growth hormone (GH) plays a key role in the regulation of lipoprotein metabolism and thus,disturbances in GH secretion are associated with dyslipidemia and cardiovascular disease. 5. 20. PPARs in the regulation of gene expression and lipid metabolism in the liver

    Author : Ulrika Edvardsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : PPARalpha; PPARgamma; PPARgamma2; Wy14; 643; rosiglitazone; liver; hepatocytes; insulin; fatty acids; MTP; ADRP; lipid metabolism; apoB; triglycerides.;

    Abstract : Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) are ligand-activated transcription factors, regulating genes involved in carbohydrate, lipid and lipoprotein metabolism. Synthetic PPARalpha agonists used in clinic are the fibrates, and their hypotriglyceridemic effect is believed to be the result of decreased VLDL triglyceride secretion and increased turnover of triglyceride-rich lipoprotein particles in the circulation.
