  1. 1. Fluorescent Probes and Protein Misfolding: Methods and Applications

    Author : Irem Nasir; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Protein misfolding; fluorophores; filter-trap; site-specific fluorophore labeling; amyloid-beta; microscopic rate constants; solvatochromic probes; alpha-synuclein; lipid vesicles; nanoparticles; protein adsorption;

    Abstract : Protein misfolding is a frequently occurring event in living cells and without the quality control, the consequences are disasterous. In this thesis, we studied protein misfolding in vitro by employing a variety of fluorophores, to either detect the highly ordered aggregates of intrinsically disordered proteins/peptides or slight misfolding of a natively folded protein. 2. 2. The influence of adhesion molecules on binding and protein organization in cell contacts

    Author : Tommy Dam; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; T cell; SLBs; Calcium Signaling; TIRF microscopy; Two-Dimensional affinity; Protein Segregation; Protein Organization; Protein Height;

    Abstract : Interactions between immune cells such as T cells and antigen-presenting cells (APCs) are integral for mounting an adaptive immune response. The interaction between the T cell receptor (TCR) and the antigen-presenting major histocompatibility complex (pMHC) on a contacting T cell and APC, is widely accepted to be the key interaction. 3. 3. Protein Microarray Chips

    Author : Goran Klenkar; Bo Liedberg; Brian MacCraith; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Microarray; biosensor; biomolecular interaction; narcotics detection; imaging ellipsometry and surface plasmon resonance; Molecular biophysics; Molekylär biofysik;

    Abstract : Livet tas för givet av de flesta. Det finns däremot många som ägnar stora delar av sitt liv för att försöka lösa dess mysterier. En del av lösningen ligger i att förstå hur alla molekyler är sammanlänkade i det gigantiska nätverk som definierar den levande organismen. READ MORE

  4. 4. Membrane Protein Biogenesis in Escherichia coli : A proteomics approach

    Author : David Vikström; Jan-Willem de Gier; Eitan Bibi; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SRP; YidC; SecE; Membrane protein biogenesis; protein targeting; 2D BN SDS-PAGE; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : In the bacterium Escherichia coli all proteins are synthesized in the cytoplasm. However, at least 25% of them then need to be exported to another cellular compartment where they exert their function. E. coli has several different targeting pathways to ensure the correct localization of its proteins. READ MORE

  5. 5. Intracellular vesicles induced by monotopic membrane protein in Escherichia coli

    Author : Hanna M. Eriksson; Åke Wieslander; Meta Kuehn; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Membrane protein; intracellular vesicles; Escherichia coli; glycosyltransferase; overexpression; optimization; detergent; screening; lipid composition; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : The monotopic membrane protein alMGS, a glycosyltransferase catalyzing glucolipid synthesis in Acholeplasma laidlawii, was overexpressed in Escherichia coli. Optimization of basic growth parameters was performed, and a novel method for detergent and buffer screening using a small size-exclusion chromatography was developed. READ MORE
