  1. 1. Mesoporous supported lipid bilayers

    Author : Maria Claesson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; FRAP; Lipid bilayer; Mesoporous; AFM; Vesicle; Titania; Silica; QCM-D;

    Abstract : AbstractLipid bilayers are commonly used as simplified model systems of living cell membranes. They have shown to be important components in the development of biosensing devices where the bilayer acts as a host for transmembrane proteins, such as ion channels, that are utilized as sensing elements. 3. 3. Formation of Mesoporous Materials and their use as Lipid Bilayer Supports

    Author : Maria Wallin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; tethered lipid bilayers; meso-ordered PEG-DA hydrogels; dendrimers; porous silica and titania; lipid bilayers; biosensing;

    Abstract : Mesoporous materials have acquired great scientific interest in various applications; something that is largely due to that their properties, such as pore size, pore orientation, material composition and surface chemistry, can be controlled to a large extent. One idea, which has been investigated in this thesis, is to use mesoporous materials as supports for lipid bilayers and by doing so fabricate devices that mimic the cell wall and at the same time has sufficient mechanical robustness for practical use. 4. 4. Atomistic computer simulations of lipid bilayers

    Author : Jakob Wohlert; Olle Edholm; Siewert-Jan Marrink; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Computer simulation has become an important tool for the study of biomolecular systems. This thesis deals with molecular dynamics simulations of one-component lipid bilayers, which may serve as models for biological membranes. READ MORE

  5. 5. Exploring the Interactive Landscape of Lipid Bilayers

    Author : Christian L. Wennberg; Erik Lindahl; Arnold Maliniak; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular Dynamics; lipid bilayer; cholesterol; permeability; long-range interactions; Lennard-Jones; dispersion; particle-mesh Ewald; Biological Physics; Biologisk fysik;

    Abstract : One of the most important aspects for all life on this planet is theact to keep their cellular processes in a state where they do notreach equilibrium. One part in the upholding of this imbalanced stateis the barrier between the cells and their surroundings, created bythe cell membrane. READ MORE
