1. Impact of sepsis and HIV-1 infection on neutrophil radical production, lipids and lipoproteins
Abstract : In clinical sepsis a decrease in total serum cholesterol caused by reduced HDL and LDL cholesterol occurred early in the course of the infection with a normalisation after 2 months. This "sepsis HDL" was shown to contain the acute phase reactant SAA and it affected several functions of the neutrophil. READ MORE

2. In vivo dosimetry of aldehydes and studies on the origin of malonaldehyde
Abstract : Aldehydes are electrophilic reagents that bind to nucleophilic sites in macromolecules andmany of them have been shown to possess cytotoxic and genotoxic properties. The aim of this study was to develop an analytical method for the measurement of reactionproducts (adducts) of aldehydes with hemoglobin (Hb) and to apply this method for in vivodosimetry of endogenously formed aldehydes, particularly malonaldehyde (MA). 3. Attenuation of Oxidative Stress, Inflammation and Colorectal Oncogenesis by Food Constituents: Ischaemia/Reperfusion Injury and Induced Colitis in Rodents
Abstract : The enteric microbiota is increasingly implicated as a central factor in the development of intestinal inflammation in humans and experimental animals, and the intestinal environment is considered important in both colorectal cancer development and modulation of mucosal immunity. Diet-induced changes in the different populations of the intestinal microbiota can be achieved by use of probiotic bacteria, dietary fibre and berries rich in phenolic compounds. READ MORE

4. Studies on Prostanoid Production in the Umbilicoplacental Circulation
Abstract : The fetoplacental circulation is a low pressure system with a high vascular prostacyclin to thromboxane (Pc/Tx)synthesis ratio. In intrauterin growth restriction (IUGR) and diabetes the prostanoid balance may be altered. READ MORE
