  1. 16. Novel factors affecting clearance of triacylglycerol-rich lipoproteins from blood

    Author : Stefan K Nilsson; Gunilla Olivecrona; Aivar Lookene; Ko Willems van Dijk; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; lipoprotein; triacylglycerol; apolipoprotein A-V; ANGPTL; Cardiovascular medicine; Kardiovaskulär medicin; medicinsk biokemi; Medical Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Apolipoprotein (apo) A-V is the most recently discovered member of a protein family responsible for the structure and metabolic fate of plasma lipoproteins. While most of the apolipoproteins are well characterized with regard to structure, interactions and function, the role of apoA-V is not well understood. READ MORE

  2. 17. Glucose and lipid metabolism in insulin resistance : an experimental study in fat cells

    Author : Jonas Burén; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Public health; adipocyte; insulin resistance; type 2 diabetes; insulin signalling; glucose uptake; insulin; glucose; dexamethasone; insulin receptor substrate; protein kinase B; GLUT4; lipoprotein lipase; Folkhälsomedicin; Public health medicine research areas; Folkhälsomedicinska forskningsområden; medicin; Medicine;

    Abstract : Type 2 diabetes is usually caused by a combination of pancreatic β-cell failure and insulin resistance in target tissues like liver, muscle and fat. Insulin resistance is characterised by an impaired effect of insulin to reduce hepatic glucose production and to promote glucose uptake in peripheral tissues. READ MORE

  3. 18. Mesoporous Silica Particles for a Potential Therapeutic Application

    Author : Muhammad Naeem Iqbal; Niklas Hedin; Tore Bengtsson; Mirva Eriksson; Jessica Rosenholm; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mesoporous silica; SBA-15; amylase; lipase; electron microscope; adsorption; type 2 diabetes; materialkemi; Materials Chemistry;

    Abstract : Mesoporous silica particles (MSPs) have a high surface area, pore volume, and tunable pore size and surface properties, which makes them ideal for advanced therapeutic, biocatalytic, separation, and drug delivery applications. The work in this thesis shows that MSPs can be employed for therapeutic applications with minimal risk of adverse consequences. READ MORE

  4. 19. Effects of prolactin on metabolism - changes induced by hyperprolactinemia

    Author : Louise Nilsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : prolactin; prolactin receptor; hyperprolactinemia; adipose tissue; lipoprotein lipase; malonyl-CoA; glucose transporter 4; retinol-binding protein 4; adiponectin; lipid oxidation;

    Abstract : High prolactin levels during breast-feeding, is recognized to influence metabolism in order to supply glucose and fat for milk production. Pathologic overproduction of prolactin, hyperprolactinemia, is a condition primarily associated with reproductive disorders; however, the metabolic impact of elevated prolactin indicates that these parameters might be considered in clinical management of the condition. 5. 20. Prolactin receptor expression and prolactin-mediated effects in adipose tissue

    Author : Charlotte Ling; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : adipose tissue; prolactin receptor; SOCS; leptin; resistin; lipoprotein lipase;

    Abstract : The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of functional prolactin receptors (PRLRs) in white adipose tissue of mice and humans, and the possible functions mediated via PRLRs. In mouse white adipose tissue, three PRLR mRNA isoforms, L-, S2-, and S3-PRLR, and L-PRLR protein expression were detected. READ MORE
