  1. 1. Triglyceride-rich lipoproteins : postprandial metabolism and composition in relation to atherosclerosis

    Author : Johan Björkegren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : triglyceride-rich lipoproteins; very low density lipoproteins; chylomicrons; lipoprotein remnants; apolipoprotein E and C; cholesterol; atherosclerosis;

    Abstract : A relationship between postprandial lipaemia and coronary heart disease (CHD) was established as early as the 1950s. Since then, most attention has been paid to postprandial triglyceride-rich lipoproteins (TRLs) of intestinal origin, i.e. chylomicrons and chylomicron remnants, whereas TRLs of hepatic origin, i. 2. 2. Interaction of Triglyceride-rich Lipoproteins with Platelets and Vitamin K-dependent Coagulation Factors

    Author : Ning Xu; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Triglycerides.; Prothrombin; Protein S; Protein C; Platelets; Phospholipids; Metabolism; Lipoproteins; Lipids; Endocytosis; Electron microscopy; Cytochemistry; Coronary heart disease; Blood coagulation factors; Arachidonic acid; Atherosclerosis; Clinical chemistry; Klinisk kemi; Haematology; extracellular fluids; Hematologi; extracellulära vätskor;

    Abstract : 1. During incubation of platelets with 3H-arachidonic acid (20:4, n-6) and 14C-cholesterol doubly labelled and colloidal gold labelled chylomicrons (CMs) and chylomicron remnants (CMRs) CMs were taken up more efficiently than CMRs. Addition of unlabelled CMs, VLDLs, LDLs and HDLs decreased the uptake of labelled CMs. READ MORE

  3. 3. Postprandial lipaemia and its relation to premature atherosclerosis in middle-aged men

    Author : Susanna Boquist; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : alimentary lipaemia; atherosclerosis; atorvastatin; coronary heart disease; intima-media thickness; triglyceride-rich lipoproteins;

    Abstract : The present research programme was set up to investigate whether pertubations of the metabolism of postprandial triglyceride-rich lipoproteins (TRLs) are related to premature atherosclerosis and to determine if treatment with a 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A reductase inhibitor (atorvastatin) improves deranged alimentary lipaemia in postinfarction patients with combined hyperlipidaemia. The relation between plasma insulin and alimentary lipaemia was investigated as well. READ MORE

  4. 4. The role of proprotein convertases in vascular disease

    Author : Bianca E Suur; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : To date, the role of the proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin (PCSK) family in vascular disease is largely unknown, with the exception of PCSK9 and its key function in lipid metabolism. The PCSK family constitutes of 9 different proteases, of which the first 7 show remarkable structural and functional overlap. READ MORE
