  1. 1. Lithium-ion battery models for performance and aging

    Author : Jing Ying Ko; Göran Lindbergh; Ulrike Krewer; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Lithium-ion batteries; pseudo two-dimensional model; model extension; parametrization; aging; lifetime; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : The demand for lithium-ion batteries (LiBs) is increasing at an exponential rate, so is the need to understand their behaviors and properties.In this pursuit, models are useful tools for improving cell design,quality, control system, keeping track of performance, aging andlifetime. 2. 2. Lithium-ion Battery Safety - Assessment by Abuse Testing, Fluoride Gas Emissions and Fire Propagation

    Author : Carl Fredrik Larsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fire; thermal runaway; gas emission; gas explosion; propagation; safety; abuse testing; Lithium-ion; cell case explosion; hydrogen fluoride;

    Abstract : Lithium-ion batteries offer high energy and power densities as well as long life time but have a more narrow stability window compared to other battery types and contain reactive and flammable materials. In case of overheating the battery cell can release gas (vent) and, at temperatures of about 150-200 °C, a so called thermal runaway can occur, that is a rapid self-heated temperature increase which is typically accompanied with a large release of smoke and gas, fire and a potential cell case explosion or gas explosion. 3. 3. Failure Mechanisms of Lithium-ion Battery Electrolytes: Detection and Mitigation

    Author : Susanne Wilken; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; additives; Lithium-ion batteries; thermal stability; LiPF6; electrolytes; vibrational spectroscopy;

    Abstract : The state-of-the-art electrolyte of the lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) present in most portable electronics contains the salt LiPF6 , organic solvents such as ethylene carbonate and dimethyl carbonate and a number of additives. This is true regardless of the exact active materials i.e. electrodes or cell design e. READ MORE

  4. 4. Ionic Liquid Based Electrolytes for High-Temperature Lithium-Ion Batteries

    Author : Manfred Kerner; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; EMITFSI; EMIFSI; electrolyte; ionic liquid; lithium-ion battery; high-temperature stability; LiFSI;

    Abstract : Today, lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) are ubiquitous in mobile phones, laptops, and other portable devices. The research community strives to further improve the LIB to increase electric driving distance and efficiency of both hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) and fully electric vehicles (EVs). READ MORE

  5. 5. Taking stock of large-scale lithium-ion battery production using life cycle assessment

    Author : Mudit Chordia; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
