  2. 2. Methods to Reduce Liver Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury

    Author : Bergþór Björnsson; Per Sandström; Per Gullstrand; Styrbjörn Friman; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Introduction: During the last two decades, liver surgery has expanded enormously, partly due to improved surgical equipment and techniques as well as new and more powerful chemotherapy agents. As the liver is a very well-vascularized organ, there is an inherent risk of bleeding during liver resection. READ MORE

  3. 3. Incidence, predictors and biomarkers for antiretroviral and/or anti-tuberculosis drugs induced liver injury

    Author : Getnet Yimer Ali; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Anti-tuberculosis and/or antiretroviral drugs induced liver injury (DILI) is a major challenge when managing TB and/or HIV patients. The aims of this thesis were to identify incidence, risk factors, and management of DILI among 4 different treatment groups namely; HIV positive individuals with no TB co-infection and had a CD4 count of < 200 cells/μl (taking ARV drugs alone = arm 1), TB-HIV co-infected patients with a CD4 count of < 200 cells/μl (taking both anti-TB and ARV drugs = arm 2), TB-HIV co-infected patients with a CD4 count of > 200 cells/μl (taking anti-TB alone = arm 3), HIV negative TB patients (taking anti-TB alone = arm 4). 4. 4. On evaluation of organ damage in perinatal asphyxia : an experimental and clinical study

    Author : Mathias Karlsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Perinatal asphyxia; hypoxia-ischemia; hypothermia; pig; lactate dehydrogenase; aminotransferases;

    Abstract : Leakage of intracellular enzymes such as alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) signalling multi organ dysfunction (MOD) is seen together with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) after perinatal asphyxia. Hypothermia (HT) can attenuate HIE following perinatal asphyxia and hypoxia-ischemia (HI) but the neuroprotective efficacy falls dramatically the longer the delay in initiating HT. READ MORE

  5. 5. Checkpoint inhibitor-induced adverse events in the CNS - T-cell characteristics and biomarkers

    Author : Sara Bjursten; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Melanoma; Immune checkpoint inhibition; Immune related adverse events to the CNS; T cells;

    Abstract : Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) activate T cells to kill cancer cells by blocking inhibitory receptors PD-1 (nivolumab; nivo) or CTLA-4 (ipilimumab; ipi). Activated T cells can also attack any healthy organ, causing unpredictable immune related adverse events (irAE). The risk of irAE is highest when treating with ipi and nivo simultaneously. READ MORE
