  1. 16. Characterization of the Alzheimer's disease-associated clac protein

    Author : Linda Söderberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most prevalent form of dementia in elderly people and is neuropathologically characterized by the presence of extracellular senile plaques (SPs) in the brain. SPs are mainly composed of the amyloid beta-peptide (Abeta), proteolytically derived from the amyloid beta-precursor protein by sequential cleavages performed by beta- and gammasecretase, to generate Abeta species of 40 and 42 amino acids, respectively. 2. 17. Short- and long-term consequences of sport-related concussion

    Author : Fredrik Vedung; Niklas Marklund; Gunnar Antoni; Elna-Marie Larsson; Jakob Johansson; Alexander Olsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Sport-related concussion; Soccer; Traumatic brain injury; tau; neuroinflammation; cerebral blood flow; Neurokirurgi; Neurosurgery;

    Abstract : Concussions are common in contact sports. Symptoms such as confusion and/or loss of consciousness following an impact to the head indicate that a sport-related concussion (SRC) has occurred. The symptoms normally resolve within 10-14 days following an SRC in adults although at least 10 % of athletes suffer from prolonged symptoms. READ MORE

  3. 18. Geospatial Open-Source Modelling for Integrated Energy Access Planning : New Tools and Methods to Bridge the Energy Access Gap

    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energiteknik; Energy Technology;

    Abstract : In 2015 the United Nations (UN) General Assembly agreed on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a set of 17 goals defined by 169 targets to be reached by 2030. Amongst them is SDG 7. SDG 7 states “Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all”. READ MORE

  4. 19. Recombinant BRICHOS domains delivered over the blood-brain barrier : a possible way to treat Alzheimer’s disease

    Author : Lorena Galán-Acosta; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : One of the current major challenges to treat neurological diseases is the ability of drug candidates to cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB). Alzheimer´s disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia worldwide, affecting more people every year due to a world where the average lifespan is increasing. READ MORE

  5. 20. Interfacial Properties of Film Forming Proteins and their Layer-by-Layer Assembly with Nanoparticles

    Author : Olga Krivosheeva; Per Claesson; Thomas Arnebrant; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; protein adsorption; mussel adhesive protein; Mefp-1; hydrophobins; HFBI; HFBII; adsorption kinetics; layer-by-layer; stability; cross-linking; zeta-potential; dual polarization interferometry; quartz crystal microbalances;

    Abstract :  The aim of this thesis work was to investigate the interfacial properties of film forming proteins, stability of the layers created by them, and their interactions with nanoparticles. Mussel adhesive protein (Mefp-1) and hydrophobins (HFBI and HFBII) were the three main proteins used. READ MORE
