  1. 6. Runtime Management of Multiprocessor Systems for Fault Tolerance, Energy Efficiency and Load Balancing

    Author : Stavros Tzilis; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fault Tolerance; Algorithms; Runtime Management; Multiprocessors; Performance; Adaptive Systems; Load Balancing; Energy Efficiency;

    Abstract : Efficiency of modern multiprocessor systems is hurt by unpredictable events: aging causes permanent faults that disable components; application spawnings and terminations taking place at arbitrary times, affect energy proportionality, causing energy waste; load imbalances reduce resource utilization, penalizing performance. This thesis demonstrates how runtime management can mitigate the negative effects of unpredictable events, making decisions guided by a combination of static information known in advance and parameters that only become known at runtime. 2. 7. Interruptible Load as an Ancillary Service in Deregulated Electricity Markets

    Author : Anh Tuan Le; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; reserve generation; least-cost planning.; interruptible load management; optimal power flow; ancillary services; deregulated electricity market; congestion management;

    Abstract : Power companies world-wide have been restructuring their electric power systems from a vertically integrated entity to a deregulated, open-market environment. Previously, electric utilities usually sought to maximize the social welfare of the system with distributional equity as its main operational criterion. READ MORE

  3. 8. Construction transport efficiency from the perspective of Main Contractor and Transporter

    Author : Farah Naz; Anna Fredriksson; Linea Kjellsdotter Ivert; Johan Woxenius; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Construction transport efficiency; Performance measures; Construction logistics management; Case study;

    Abstract : Transport efficiency within construction is low. One reason behind the lack of efficiency within the construction transport is the lack of proper logistics management that in turn results in problems of delivery reliability, material flows as well as material availability. READ MORE

  4. 9. Traffic Management in Software-Defined Data Center Networks

    Author : Cristian Hernandez Benet; Andreas Kassler; Boris Koldehofe; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SDN; data center; load-balancing; traffic management; EVPN; big data; programmable data plane; Computer Science; Datavetenskap;

    Abstract : Traffic management in data centers is paramount to improving network and application performance, thereby improving the quality of service by reducing network congestion, packet loss, and latency. However, the deployment and configuration of traffic management techniques are challenging due to diverse data-center traffic characteristics, large data center topologies, and the interplay of different protocols at the routing, transport, and link layer. 5. 10. Load and Risk Based Maintenance Management of Wind Turbines

    Author : Pramod Bangalore; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; optimization; wind energy.; supervisory control and data acquisition SCADA ; condition monitoring system CMS ; Artificial neural networks ANN ; maintenance strategy; maintenance planning; maintenance management; life cycle cost;

    Abstract : The cost of maintenance is a considerable part of the total life cycle cost in wind turbines, especially for offshore applications. Research has shown that some critical components account for most of the downtime in the wind turbines. READ MORE
