  1. 1. Corrosion testing of heat exchanger tubing

    Author : Ulf Kivisäkk; KTH; []
    Keywords : corrosion testing; heat exchanger; stainless steels; general corrosion; immersion testing; activation; stress corrosion cracking; constant load; u-bends; relaxation; dewpoint corrosion;

    Abstract : Heat exchanger tubes are commonly made from stainless steel.In a heat exchanger both the process fluid and the cooling orheating media can be corrosive. It is therefore important to beable to select materials that do not suffer from corrosion.Current methods in this area, however, suffer from limitationsand shortcomings. READ MORE

  2. 2. Evaluation of the Load Carrying Capacity of a Steel Truss Railway Bridge : Testing, Theory and Evaluation

    Author : Jens Häggström; Hans Pétursson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Structural Engineering; Konstruktionsteknik;

    Abstract : A good deal of resources has been invested in building and maintaining existing infrastructure.Many structures are now becoming old and do not meet the requirements of an increasingtraffic load, or are reaching the end of their lifecycle. READ MORE

    Author : Jukka Hyttinen; Lars Drugge; Jenny Jerrelind; James Busfield; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Truck tyre; PRF; filler-reinforced rubber; ambient temperature; rubber testing; constitutive modelling; parametrisation; rolling resistance; load cell; Fletcher-Gent effect; Payne effect; Lastbilsdäck; PRF; förstärkande fyllmedel; gummi; omgivningstemperatur; gummiprovning; konstitutiv modellering; parametrisering; rullmotstånd; lastcell; Fletcher-Gent effekt; Payne effekt; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics;

    Abstract : Truck transport offers a versatile way to ship goods in regional, long haulage and urban applications. However, the heavy truck sector accounts for 6 % of total greenhouse gas emissions in the European Union. Therefore, there is a need for a substantial reduction of these emissions to secure the sustainability of Earth for future generations. READ MORE

  4. 4. Investigation of Suffusion in Glacial Till Dam Cores : Testing methods and critical hydraulic gradients

    Author : Ingrid Silva; Jan Laue; Peter Viklander; Thomas Pabst; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; internal erosion; suffusion; glacial till; dam cores; dams; experimental investigation; hydraulic gradient; testing methods; cohesionless soils; granular soils; Geoteknik; Soil Mechanics;

    Abstract : Suffusion is an internal erosion mechanism that occurs in embankment dams when fine grained particles in the dam core are washed out by seepage. Initiation of internal erosion depends mainly on three major factors: grain size distribution of the soil, stress conditions and hydraulic gradient; whilst its continuation depends on the properties of the filter. 5. 5. Mechanistic-Empirical Modelling of Flexible Pavement Performance : Verifications Using APT Measurements

    Author : Abubeker W. Ahmed; Sigurdur Erlingsson; Hervè Di Benedetto; Statens väg- och transportforskningsinstitut; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Performance; Deformation; Model not math ; Rutting wheel ; Viscoelasticity; Elasticity; Axle load; Flexible pavement; Laboratory not an organization ; Test; Thesis; Heavy vehicle simulator; Wheel tracking test; 32 Road: Pavement design; 32 Road: Pavement design; Transportvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering;

    Abstract : Mechanistic-Empirical  (M-E)  pavement  design  procedures  are  composed  of  a  reliable  response model to estimate the state of stress in the pavement and distress models in order to predict the different types of pavement distresses due to the prevailing traffic and environmental conditions. One of the main objectives of this study was to develop a response model based on multilayer elastic  theory   (MLET)  with  improved  computational  performance  by   optimizing  the   time consuming parts of the MLET processes.
