  1. 1. CD40L Gene Therapy for Solid Tumors

    Author : Lina Liljenfeldt; Thomas Tötterman; Angelica Loskog; Sara Mangsbo; Evren Alici; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CD40L; adenovirus; tumor immunology; tumor microenvironment; immunotherapy; local immunotherapy; antigen presentation; Immunologi; Immunology;

    Abstract : Adenoviral CD40L gene therapy (AdCD40L) is a strong inducer of anti-tumor immune responses via its activation of dendritic cells (DCs). Activated DCs can in turn activate T cells, which are key players in an efficient anti-tumor response.This thesis includes three papers that focus on different aspects of AdCD40L gene therapy. 2. 2. Towards Immunotherapy of Midgut Carcinoid Tumors

    Author : Sofia Vikman; Thomas Tötterman; Valeria Giandomenico; Bengt Widegren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Immunology; midgut carcinoid; gene expression; immunotherapy; tumor antigen; VMAT-1; T cell; HLA-A*0201-binding peptide; IFNγ; regulatory T cell; Immunologi;

    Abstract : Classical midgut carcinoids belong to neuroendocrine tumors of the gastroenteropancreatic tract (GEP-NETs) and are associated with serotonin overproduction. The term midgut is derived from the tumors’ embryological site of origin: enterochromaffin cells in the lower jejunum, ileum, caecum and the ascending colon. READ MORE

  3. 3. Nitric Oxide Regulation during Anti-tumor Immunotherapy

    Abstract : During tumor progression a strong immunosuppression is developed and is believed to be the major reason why immunotherapy fails. This suppression is induced in response to factors produced from tumor cells, but can also be induced after immunotherapy. READ MORE

  4. 4. Antibody-based immunotherapy of cancer : From optimization to novel approaches

    Author : Luuk van Hooren; Anna Dimberg; Eugene C. Butcher; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cancer immunotherapy; CD40; CTLA-4; PD-1; Gal-1; tertiary lymphoid structures;

    Abstract : Antibody immunotherapy is a successful therapeutic approach to treat cancer. The overall aim of this thesis is to investigate the mechanisms of antibody-based immunotherapies and the role of the tumor microenvironment in mediating the anti-tumor immune response, in order to aid the development of improved immunotherapies for cancer patients.
