  1. 1. Localization effects in ternary nitride semiconductors

    Author : Vytautas Liuolia; Saulius Marcinkevicius; Toshiharu Saiki; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; AlGaN; InGaN; AlInN; LEDs; near-field microscopy; carrier dynamics; alloy fluctuations; carrier localization; built-in electric field; nonpolar planes; polarized luminescence;

    Abstract : InGaN based blue and near-ultraviolet light emitting diodes and laser diodes have been successfully commercialized for many applications such as general lighting, display backlighting and high density optical storage devices. Despite having a comparably high defect density, these devices are known for their efficient operation, which is attributed to localization in potential fluctuations preventing carriers from reaching the centers of nonradiative recombination. 2. 2. Identification of novel BRCA2-binding proteins that are essential for meiotic homologous recombination

    Author : Jingjing Zhang; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; meiosis; DSB; cancer; BRCA2; MEILB2; BRME1; HR; RAD51; DMC1; DDR;

    Abstract : Meiotic recombination is a molecular process in which the induction and repair of programmed DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) creates genetic exchange between homologous chromosomes and thus increases genetic diversity and ensures chromosome segregation. Breast cancer susceptibility gene 2 (BRCA2) is a potent cancer suppressor and is required for DSB repair by homologous recombination (HR) in mitosis. READ MORE

  3. 3. Regulation of dioxin receptor function by the Hsp90 chaperone complex

    Author : Arunas Kazlauskas; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In mammals the basic helix-loop-helix/Per-Arnt-Sim (bHLH/PAS) family of transcription factors includes the dioxin receptor which is a ligand-dependent transcription factor which mediates biological effects of environmental pollutants such as 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-rho-dioxin (dioxin). In the absence of ligand, the dioxin receptor is associated with the molecular chaperone Hsp90 and two Hsp90-interacting proteins, the co-chaperone p23 and an immunophilin-like protein XAP2. 4. 4. Role of posttranslational modifications in regulation of Notch and transcriptional coactivator mastermind-like 1

    Author : Anita Popko-Scibor; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The Notch signaling is an evolutionary conserved pathway enabling short range cell-cell interactions, crucial for diverse developmental and physiological processes during embryonic and adult life. The Mastermind-like (MAML) family of transcriptional coactivator proteins has been shown to play an essential role in regulation of Notch-mediated transcription. READ MORE

  5. 5. Doping effects on the structural and optical properties of GaN

    Author : Sergey Khromov; Galia Pozina; Lars Hultman; Thierry Bretagnon; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Today there is a strong drive towards higher efficiency light emitters and devices for power electronics based on GaN and its ternary compounds. Device performance can be improved in several ways on the material level. READ MORE
