  1. 1. Ventricular Long Axis Function: Amplitudes and Timings : Echocardiographic Studies in Health and Disease

    Author : Frederick Bukachi; Anders Waldenstrom; Derek Gibson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; Echocardiography; Doppler Tissue Imaging; Ageing; coronary disease; left ventricular function; atrial contraction; electromechanical function; coronary angioplasty.; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin; kardiologi; Cardiology;

    Abstract : Background: The ageing process not only increases the risk of coronary artery disease (CAD) but also complicates its diagnosis and treatment. It is therefore important to understand the newer concepts of cardiovascular ageing physiology as well as methods of predicting the outcomes of therapeutic options available for the elderly with severe CAD. 2. 2. Cardiac Long-Axis Function. Experimental and Clinical Aspects

    Author : Jonathan Berg; Lund Klinisk fysiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Heart failure; acute myocardal infarct; magnetic resonance imaging MRI ; pressure-volume loops; hypothermia; atrioventricular plane displacement; global longitudinal strain; Survival analyses;

    Abstract : This thesis includes both experimental and clinical projects. The experimental studies investigate pathophysiological aspects of ventricular longitudinal function and therapeutic hypothermia during acute myocardial infarction (AMI). READ MORE

  3. 3. The importance of long axis function -an echocardiographic study with respect to ageing, response to treatment, prediction of survival and effect of warm water immersion

    Author : Bente Grüner Sveälv; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Echocardiography; Long axis function; Heart failure; Age; Dobutamine stress; Recover; Prognosis; Warm water immersion;

    Abstract : Echocardiographic M-mode measurement of atrioventricular plane displacement (AVPD) and determination of annular velocity with Tissue Doppler imaging (TDI) is a reliable method to gauge ventricular long axis function for quantification of myocardial contractility and relaxation. The aim of this thesis was to increase the understanding of the importance of long axis function with respect to ageing, response to pharmacological treatment, prediction of survival, and enhanced load condition caused by warm water immersion. 4. 4. Insights into the effect of myocardial revascularisation on electrical and mechanical cardiac function

    Author : Ihab Ramzy Guirguis; Michael Y Henein; Stellan Mörner; Reidar Winter; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; myocardial infarction; natriuretic peptides; echocardiography; ventricular function; atrial function; surgical revascularisation; speckle tracking echocardiography; Cardiology; kardiologi;

    Abstract : Background: Acute coronary syndrome is known for its effect on cardiac function and can lead to impaired segmental and even global myocardial function. Evidence exists that myocardial revascularisation whether pharmacological, interventional or surgical results in improvement of systolic and diastolic left ventricular (LV) function, particularly that of the long axis which represents the sub-endocardial function, known as the most sensitive layer to ischaemia. 5. 5. Growth hormone in the brain : Focus on cognitive function

    Author : Erika Brolin; Fred Nyberg; Mathias Hallberg; Alfhild Grönbladh; Jörgen Isgaard; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Growth hormone; central nervous system; cognition; morphine; gamma-hydroxybutyrate; diabetes; Barnes maze; Morris water maze; mice; rats; Pharmaceutical Science; Farmaceutisk vetenskap;

    Abstract : Cognitive impairments are an increasing health problem worldwide. In the developed countries, the average life expectancy has dramatically increased over the last decades, and with an elderly population more cases of cognitive impairments appear. READ MORE
