  1. 1. Long shifts, short rests and vulnerability to shift work

    Author : John Axelsson; Torbjörn Åkerstedt; Ulf Lundberg; Phil Tucker; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Sleep; alertness; sleepiness; shiftwork; compressed working hours; long shifts; 12h shifts; quick returns; quick change-overs; tolerance; gender; Psychology; Psykologi;

    Abstract : At the same time as many urban economies are developing into 24-hour societies it is becoming increasingly popular amongst shift workers to compress their working hours. This is done by working longer shifts (>8h) and/or restricting free time (... READ MORE

  2. 2. Regime Shifts in the Anthropocene

    Author : Juan Carlos Rocha; Garry Peterson; Debra Peters; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; regime shifts; critical transitions; ecosystems; drivers; impacts; ecosystem services; Sustainability Science; vetenskap om hållbar utveckling;

    Abstract : Abrupt and persistent reconfiguration of ecosystem’s structure and function has been observed on a wide variety of ecosystems worldwide. While scientist believe that such phenomena could become more common and severe in the near future, little is known about the patterns of regime shifts’ causes and consequences for human well-being. 3. 3. The palaeolimnological record of regime shifts in lakes in response to climate change

    Author : Linda Randsalu Wendrup; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; palaeolimnology; regime shifts; thresholds; alternative stable states; climate change; ecosystem dynamics; diatoms; hydrocarbons; monitoring; lake sediments; shallow lakes; 8.2 ka event;

    Abstract : Regime shifts in lake ecosystems can occur in response to both abrupt and continuous climate change, and the imprints they leave in palaeolimnological records allow us to investigate and better understand patterns and processes governing ecological changes on geological time scales. This thesis aims at investigating palaeolimnological records of regime shifts in lakes during the Holocene to explore how lake ecosystems responded to climate changes and anthropogenic activities and to identify thresholds or tipping points that produced regime shifts. 4. 4. Rational Expectations and Regime Shifts in Macroeconometrics

    Author : Mårten Blix; Helmut Lütkepohl; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Economics; Nationalekonomi; Economics; nationalekonomi;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of three papers. The first two papers explore implications of rational expectations when there is stochastic regime-switching; the third is an independent paper where underlying inflation is defined using rational expectations. READ MORE

  5. 5. Transport systems meeting long-term climate targets : A backcasting approach

    Author : Jonas Åkerman; Mattias Höjer; Glenn Lyons; KTH; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Other social sciences; Övrig samhällsvetenskap;

    Abstract : Future transport systems consistent with long-term climate targets are examined in this thesis, using a systems perspective covering the entire transport system. Aviation is given particular attention, as expansion of this mode is difficult to reconcile with climate targets. READ MORE
