  1. 1. Ventricular Long Axis Function: Amplitudes and Timings : Echocardiographic Studies in Health and Disease

    Author : Frederick Bukachi; Anders Waldenstrom; Derek Gibson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; Echocardiography; Doppler Tissue Imaging; Ageing; coronary disease; left ventricular function; atrial contraction; electromechanical function; coronary angioplasty.; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin; kardiologi; Cardiology;

    Abstract : Background: The ageing process not only increases the risk of coronary artery disease (CAD) but also complicates its diagnosis and treatment. It is therefore important to understand the newer concepts of cardiovascular ageing physiology as well as methods of predicting the outcomes of therapeutic options available for the elderly with severe CAD. 2. 2. Cardiac Long-Axis Function. Experimental and Clinical Aspects

    Author : Jonathan Berg; Lund Klinisk fysiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Heart failure; acute myocardal infarct; magnetic resonance imaging MRI ; pressure-volume loops; hypothermia; atrioventricular plane displacement; global longitudinal strain; Survival analyses;

    Abstract : This thesis includes both experimental and clinical projects. The experimental studies investigate pathophysiological aspects of ventricular longitudinal function and therapeutic hypothermia during acute myocardial infarction (AMI). READ MORE

  3. 3. The importance of long axis function -an echocardiographic study with respect to ageing, response to treatment, prediction of survival and effect of warm water immersion

    Author : Bente Grüner Sveälv; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Echocardiography; Long axis function; Heart failure; Age; Dobutamine stress; Recover; Prognosis; Warm water immersion;

    Abstract : Echocardiographic M-mode measurement of atrioventricular plane displacement (AVPD) and determination of annular velocity with Tissue Doppler imaging (TDI) is a reliable method to gauge ventricular long axis function for quantification of myocardial contractility and relaxation. The aim of this thesis was to increase the understanding of the importance of long axis function with respect to ageing, response to pharmacological treatment, prediction of survival, and enhanced load condition caused by warm water immersion. 4. 4. Making Head or Tail of the Hippocampus : A Long-Axis Account of Episodic and Spatial Memory

    Author : Jonas Persson; Hedvig Söderlund; Tomas Furmark; Asaf Gilboa; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hippocampus; fMRI; episodic memory; spatial memory; gender differences; Psychology; Psykologi;

    Abstract : While episodic and spatial memory both depend on the hippocampus, opposite gender differences in these functions suggest they are partly separate, with different neural underpinnings. The anterior and posterior hippocampus differ  in structure and whole-brain connectivity, and studies point to the posterior hippocampus being more involved in spatial memory while the anterior hippocampus’ role in episodic memory is less clear. 5. 5. Echocardiographic measurements of the heart : with focus on the right ventricle

    Author : Karin Loiske; Kent Emilsson; Allan Sirsjö; Jan Engvall; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Echocardiography; heart; right ventricle; right ventricular outflow tract 1; isovolumetric relaxation time; maximal early diastolic relaxation velocity; takotsubo cardiomyopathy; long-axis function; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Clinical physiology; Klinisk fysiologi; Biomedicin; Biomedicine;

    Abstract : Echocardiography is a well established technique when evaluating the size and function of the heart. One of the most common ways to measure the size of the right ventricle (RV) is to measure the RV outflow tract 1(RVOT1). Several ways to measure RVOT1 are described in the literature. READ MORE
