  2. 2. Long-term Voltage Stability in Power Systems - Alleviating the Impact of Generator Current Limiters

    Author : Stefan Johansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; rotor thermal overloading; dynamic load modelling; voltage stability; field current limiter; active power rescheduling; overexcitation limiter; armature current limiter; long-term power system dynamic stability;

    Abstract : The main issues in this dissertation are the behaviour of current limiters protecting synchronous generators, and the interactions that occur with other components in the power system during a voltage instability. The importance of these limiters for the voltage stability is shown both in the analysis of small models and in the simulations of larger networks. READ MORE

  3. 3. Grid reinforcing wind generation

    Author : Nayeem Ullah; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; transient stability; variable speed wind turbine; long term voltage stability; short term voltage stability; frequency converter;

    Abstract : In this thesis, effects of some grid assisting possibilities that wind turbines could be equipped with, are investigated. The background is that concerns regarding the stability of the already existing power system in the presence of large wind farms have been risen. READ MORE

  4. 4. Voltage Support of Transmission Grids Using Resources Located in the Underlying Lower Voltage Networks : Unlocking the Potential of Distributed Generation Reactive Power Capabilities

    Author : Stefan Stanković; Lennart Söder; Andrew Keane; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; reactive power support; voltage control; voltage stability; reactive power planning; inverter-based generation; active distribution networks; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : The path to sustainable, fossil-free future leads to inevitable energy transition towards renewable energy sources. A part of this transition includes replacement of conventional transmission system connected power plants with distributed renewables plants such as wind power. READ MORE

  5. 5. Data-driven methods for real-time dynamic stability assessment and control

    Author : Hannes Hagmar; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Machine learning; Security assessment; Neural networks; Optimal control; Dynamic voltage security margin; Voltage instability prediction; Voltage stability; Deep reinforcement learning;

    Abstract : Electric power systems are becoming increasingly complex to operate; a trend driven by an increased demand for electricity, large-scale integration of renewable energy resources, and new system components with power electronic interfaces. In this thesis, a new real-time monitoring and control tool that can support system operators to allow more efficient utilization of the transmission grid has been developed. READ MORE
