  1. 1. Look-ahead Control of Heavy Vehicles

    Author : Erik Hellström; Lars Nielsen; Jan Åslund; Lino Guzzella; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; automotive control; dynamic programming; predictive control; fuel-optimal control; long haulage truck; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP; Information technology; Informationsteknik; Automatic control; Reglerteknik;

    Abstract : Trucks are responsible for the major part of inland freight and so, they are a backbone of the modern economy but they are also a large consumer of energy. In this context, a dominating vehicle is a truck with heavy load on a long trip. READ MORE

  2. 2. Fuel-Efficient Look-Ahead Control for Heavy-Duty Vehicles with Varying Velocity Demands

    Author : Manne Held; Jonas Mårtensson; Oscar Flärdh; Ardalan Vahidi; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; look-ahead control; optimal control; powertrain control; advanced driver assistance systems; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : The fuel consumption of heavy-duty vehicles can be reduced by using information about the upcoming road section when controlling the vehicles. Most manufacturers of heavy-duty vehicles today offer such look-ahead controllers for highway driving, where the information consists of the road grade and the velocity only has small variations. 3. 3. Fuel-efficient and safe heavy-duty vehicle platooning through look-ahead control

    Author : Valerio Turri; Karl H. Johansson; Nathan van de Wouw; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; platooning; eco-driving; look-ahead control; dynamic programming; distributed model predictive control; optimal control; autonomous vehicles; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik; Vehicle and Maritime Engineering; Farkostteknik;

    Abstract : The operation of groups of heavy-duty vehicles at small inter-vehicular distances, known as platoons, lowers the overall aerodynamic drag and, therefore, reduces fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Experimental tests conducted on a flat road and without traffic have shown that platooning has the potential to reduce the fuel consumption up to 10%. READ MORE

  4. 4. Look-ahead Control of Heavy Trucks utilizing Road Topography

    Author : Erik Hellström; Lars Nielsen; Torkel Glad; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; predictive control; dynamic programming; Automatic control; Reglerteknik;

    Abstract : The power to mass ratio of a heavy truck causes even moderate slopes to have a significant influence on the motion. The velocity will inevitable vary within an interval that is primarily determined by the ratio and the road topography. READ MORE

  5. 5. Look-ahead control for fuel-efficient and safe heavy-duty vehicle platooning

    Author : Valerio Turri; Karl H. Johansson; Petros Ioannou; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; platoon; platooning; optimization; optimal control; model predictive control; automatic control; fuel efficiency; intelligent transport systems; automated driving; cooperative; dynamic programming; trucks; heavy-duty vehicles; safe platooning; fuel-efficient platooning; distributed model predictive control; MPC; vehicle-following; pulse and glide; Vehicle and Maritime Engineering; Farkostteknik;

    Abstract : The operation of heavy-duty vehicles at small inter-vehicular distances, known as platoons, lowers the aerodynamic drag and, therefore, reduces fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Tests conducted on flat roads have shown the potential of platooning to reduce the fuel consumption of about 10%. READ MORE
