  1. 1. Calcium regulation and functions of basic Helix-Loop-Helix transcription factors

    Author : Juha Saarikettu; Thomas Grundström; Dan Holmberg; Mikael Sigvardsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; calcium; calmodulin; calretinin; transcription; bHLH; E-protein; E2-2; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : The members of the ubiquitously expressed E-protein subfamily of basic Helix-Loop-Helix (bHLH) transcription factors, E12/E47, SEF2-1 and HEB, have important roles as regulators of gene expression in various differentiation processes, including lymphocyte development and myogenesis. In myogenesis, E-proteins are proposed to function as obligate heterodimer partners for members of the MyoD family of muscle-specific bHLH transcription factors. READ MORE

  2. 2. Transcriptional regulation and effects on differentiation by LMO proteins and the basic helix-loop-helix factors TAL1 and HEN1

    Author : Anders Hansson; Institutionen för translationell medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetik; cytogenetik; cytogenetics; Genetics; HEN1; differentiation; LMO; LIM proteins; TAL1; T-ALL; bHLH;

    Abstract : Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most widespread type of cancer, as well as the most frequent leukemia in children. Malignant ALL cells originate from normal T lymphocytes or B cells that are blocked at immature stages of differentiation. READ MORE

  3. 3. Regulation and functions of basic helix-loop-helix transcription factors in neuroblastoma cells

    Author : Paula Persson; Institutionen för translationell medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; oncology; Cytology; Id; Olf EBF; ubiquilin-1; HASH-1; bHLH; Neuroblastoma; neuronal differentiation; cancer; onkologi; cancerology; Cytologi;

    Abstract : Neuroblastoma is a childhood tumor derived from primordial neural crest cells. The tumor cells exhibit a phenotype similar to that of developing neuroblasts, which indicates that the tumor arises due to perturbed differentiation of the sympathetic nervous system. READ MORE

  4. 4. The immunoglobulin heavy chain 3 enhancer : coupling of basic-Helix-Loop-Helix proteins to the regulation of enhancer function

    Author : Velmurugesan Arulampalam; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : During B lymphocyte development, the transcriptional activity of the IgH locus is subject tospatial and temporal changes. One cis-control element, the IgH 3' enhancer, has been impli-cated in regulating functional events in late B cell development. READ MORE

  5. 5. Transcriptional networks in neuroblastoma and breast cancer

    Author : Christina Manetopoulos; Institutionen för translationell medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; basic helix-loop-helix; Neuroblastoma; Breast cancer;

    Abstract : Transcription factors of the basic Helix-loop-helix (bHLH) family of proteins are important regulators of cellular processes such as proliferation and differentiation. Many cancer diseases show a block in differentiation, and aberrant regulation of several bHLH factors have been implicated in the development of different malignancies. READ MORE
