  1. 1. Mass Loss of Evolved Stars : Improving Mass-Loss Rates and Distances

    Author : Miora Andriantsaralaza; Paul Barklem; Elvire De Beck; Susanne Höfner; Jacco van Loon; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; AGB stars; Mass loss; Distance; Circumstellar matter; Radio interferometry; Stellar evolution; Fysik med inriktning mot astrofysik; Physics with specialization in Astrophysics;

    Abstract : In the final stages of their lives, low to intermediate-mass stars enter the Asymptotic Giant Branch (AGB) phase, where they experience significant mass loss through dusty stellar winds. This mass loss is pivotal, not only for the chemical enrichment of the interstellar medium, setting the stage for new stars and planets to form, but also in dictating the evolution and the ultimate fate of the stars themselves. 2. 2. Loss Minimisation in Dynamic Food Processes

    Author : Marcus Henningsson; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Livsmedelsteknik; Food and drink technology; Teknik; Technological sciences; CFD; dual plane ERT; ERT; waste minimisation; loss; milk; density; sensor fusion; multivariate calibration; electrical resistance tomography; dairy process; turbidity; conductivity;

    Abstract : The overall aim of the present work was to reduce losses during product changes or during rinsing in continuous food processing, with particular attention to dairy plants. The concept of sensor fusion of common process instruments was implemented as a tool to monitor the milk and fat concentrations in a dairy processing line. READ MORE

  3. 3. Internet Interventions for Hearing Loss : Examing rehabilitation, self-report measures and internet use for hearing-aid users

    Author : Elisabet Sundewall Thorén; Thomas Lunner; Gerhard Andersson; Marie Öberg; Jean-Pierre Gagné; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Counseling; hearing loss; hearing aids; rehabilitation of people with hearing loss; internet; outcome assessment; hearing aid satisfaction;

    Abstract : In the future, audiological rehabilitation of adults with hearing loss will be more available, personalized and thorough due to the possibilities offered by the internet. By using the internet as a platform it is also possible to perform the process of rehabilitation in a cost-effective way. READ MORE

  5. 5. Deep Perceptual Loss and Similarity

    Author : Gustav Grund Pihlgren; Marcus Liwicki; Fredrik Sandin; Hugo Larochelle; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Image Similarity; Perceptual Similarity; Perceptual Loss; Deep Features; Deep Learning; Machine Learning; Maskininlärning;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates deep perceptual loss and (deep perceptual) similarity; methods for computing loss and similarity for images as the distance between the deep features extracted from neural networks. The primary contributions of the thesis consist of (i) aggregating much of the existing research on deep perceptual loss and similarity, and (ii) presenting novel research into understanding and improving the methods.
